15,000 Days and Nights in the wilderness

Post: # 478715Post Enrico_Misso »

15,000 days from Saturday 24th Sept 66 to Oct 19th 2007.

We've come close a few times, but the suffering rolls on.

Nice presentation!

1897-1902, 83-86 redefine "flatlining".

A nice reminder for anyone who remembers the awful days of "save our saints" - our clubs grip on things is tenuous at the best of times when onfield performances aren't there.

thanks Enrico. Shows just how starved of success we've been.
Bring on 2008.

eg between 8th and 9th going back to 1994
between 6th and 7th before that

We have finished on the bottom the most, i think it is 26 times, which on average every 4 years since we have been in it, ir it was when we had our last one so it is probably up around 4.09 years or something now hahah

Yet Fans still ring up SEN introducing themselves as a long suffering Carlton/Essendon supporter.

Yeah i realise that, but since the 16th team (Port) was introduced in '97 i think... we didnt finish last in that year or '98, but im sure we must have finished 16th more than once between '99 and '02? We were a joke at that time, but was there a team even more of a joke than us then?

98 - we only missed i think we got 6th

in 99 we got 10th

We got the spoon in 2000- with 2 and a half wins

in 01 i think we finished 15th- only to Freo where they traded their number one pick to Hawks for Trent Croad hahaha

in 02 we finished 15th, above Carlton but they cheated and we got their number 1 pick (Goddard)

in 03, 11th

and the others speak for themselves

So only 16th once

To date I believe only Port, Adelaide and West Coast have never finished bottom at all.

Terrific suggestion MLF.
I added a line showing the number of finalists.
Prior to 1931 it gets a bit messy with a number of finals options tried.
But they mostly involved 4 teams, so I have just set it to 4 for the 1897-1930 period.
This of course includes the infamous 1916 season with only 4 teams and 4 finalists where The Roys won the spoon and the flag.

And worth pointing out if anyone is confused, that each blue dot on the purple line corresponds to a wooden spoon - 26 in all.

And each blue dot on or above the orange line represents a finals appearance - 22 in all.

Here's the update ...
