Just wondering whether he's had corrective surgery for the groin troubles... Anyone know what's going on?

agree...disagree

even if he isnt at his best Luke is in the top 10, or 15 at the least, players at the club

would be a disgrace if we just sent him "on the way"

I think he meant on the way as in on the way to getting better.

Ball's 100m time was about 0.3 seconds quicker than Judd's too (as 18-year olds)

They should only play AFL games now when it's raining. Slow games of footy are so much better to watch.

Yeah he's definitely an all rounder. Hopefully this surgery has ended his groin troubles and he can go back to some of his pre OP form next year.

Luke was in year 11 when drafted! The only reason he wasn't No.1 draft pick is that he wanted to NOT play league footy so he could complete YEAR 12! GT respected that & Saints drafted knowing he'd virtually sit out a year.

Unfortunately 100 meters is a useless stat for an AFL footballer.
Its all about what you do for the first few meters and the speed you're going when find the ball .

Judd excels where it counts.
Thats why he is the game;s best game breaker!

was he???

I thought it was just that we tried to outsmart WC by thinking we could get Ball and Judd....and that we "thought" that WC wanted Ball but not Judd???????

JB was quoted once as saying that when WC called Judds number out that they looked directly at JB and smiled....

im pretty sure the top 5 predictions were like so:

1. Hodge (Haw)
2. Ball (StK)
3. Polak (WCE)
4. Sampi (Fre)
5. Judd (StK)

Everyone thought Hodge and Ball were a class above. Then that West Coast and Fremantle would take the most talented Western Australians. So that would leave us Judd.

Thats what I have always believed to have been the case. Anyone got facts?

The fact is Judd was always seen as the best with Hodge next and then Ball.
Judd had 2 shoulder reconstructions and was termed as a "risk" in a super draft where there was not much between the first three and the draft ran deep.

After all that I wouldn't be surprised if the 5 best players turned out being G.Ablett, Hodge, Dal Santo, Bartel, Montagna...

ROBERT HARVEY A.K.A The Great Man, Banger, Harves, Ol' Man River...
384 games, 4 B&F's, 3 EJ Whitten Medals, St.Kilda Captain, 2 Time Brownlow Medalist, 8 Time All Australian, 2nd Highest Brownlow votes poller.... The greatest of ALL TIME!!

Well there is not one ranking....as everyone will rank players differently...

But my recollection is that Hodge, Ball and Judd were clearly in everyones top 3 based purely on ability. Some were worried about Judd's shoulders.....

Some thought WC may go for Polak as a local boy due to the go home factor etc....and so while not ranking him above the other 3 in terms of aabilty some though that WC would plumb for him.

Butters was strongly of the view that the Saints should have taken Judd with their first pick...but as President did not have a say.

But back to your earlier statement that the St Kilda recruiters ranked Ball higher than Judd. No, that is not my understanding.

However how quick footballers run over 100m is not really that important in AFL unless they are truly outside players.....

BJ is reported to have had some good sprint times at training....but has never shown useful pace in an AFL match.

The pace that is important is the initial acceleration. Players that have this "burst" pace such as Judd have a clear advantage.

Bigger players with bust pace can for example make very good FFs.....

He was at the Jam Factory today seeing a film, with the girl he took to the 2006 Brownlow. Said training begins on Monday for the club.

Abuctor release operation.....so a bit more than minor.

Is a well understood operation these days and very common with soccer players where groin and related injuries are more common. It has a good success record.

My brother in law had it done and he played some of his best football of the round ball variety after he had it done.

Not many others.
The wider recruiting community certainly didnt.

Judds shoulders were seen as a risk.
GT liked Ball.
Not sure about Bev.
