History?

Post: # 522941Post Life Long Saint »

Back in 2004 when we won the Wizard Cup we played Adelaide, Richmond, Essendon (in a Semi) and Geelong in the Final.

We've already played two of these four and are due to meet the Bombers in a Semi Final again.

If Adelaide get through the next two weeks could we see history repeat itself?

Remember that we went on to win the first 10 games.

In a curious twist of the 2004 draw, we played the same four teams in the first four rounds in reverse order to the Wizard Cup. That obviously won't happen this time but we do face the Cats and Bombers in the first five rounds.

Love the omens!

Wouldn't mind see us getting beaten next week ... except that we're playing Essendon! Grrr ... I would like us to be out of the spotlight for a couple of weeks before the real stuff starts, but I want to beat the Bombers too!

They should only play AFL games now when it's raining. Slow games of footy are so much better to watch.

This thought struck me ealrier today - I'd say its a near certainty if we make the final. Can'tr see Freo or hawthorn troubling the crows... but i ddin't want to say it because a) Adelaide haven't even made it to round three yet and b) we haven't beaten essendon yet.

There were plenty of omens for '06 and that got us nowhere.

Speaking of history,
it reminded me a bit of a pre-season (Ansett?) Cup game back in 95 against Carlton at the Park.
That day we were 9 goals down at 1/2 time but slowly battled back.
Ultimate victory was sealed with two unknowns combining to set up the winning goal at the small scoreboard end.
Not sure now, but I think it was Joel Smith and Aussie Jones, or was it Tony Brown ?
Either way they were unknowns then but soon kicked on.

Parallels with Jack's goal yesterday.

I also remember the pre season semi final in 2004 against Essendon.
I remember Johnson repeatedly kneeing Aaron Hamill in thigh trying to give him a corkie.
I remember the umpires observing and taking absolutely no action so Johnson did it again and again. The umpires were just waiting for Hamill to retaliate so they could report him. He did not.
It was shown many times on television during the week so Adrian Anderson and Andrew Demetriou would have seen it many times. They also took no action.
AFL board chairman, and chairman of Spotless, the catering company that placed 15 year olds on contracts rather than employees so that they were not responsible for their protection, Ron Evans also could not have missed it. Evans took no action. He is dead now,may he rot in hell.
It was at that time that I realised that A-F-L was an abbreviation for corruption.
