When did we last play 4 quarters of stong football

Post: # 543330Post kalsaint »

Add in the condition that the oppo was a competitive side and this eliminates the 2 consecutive wins 100 point win over the Carlton and Eagles in 2004.

I reckon the answer is Prelim final against North Melbourne 1997 when we had our ruck division injured but had pure desire with team heart.

Feel free to correct me if there is something more recent but remamber the condition above.

Midfield clearances and clear winners are needed to make an effective forward line.

You need to protect the ball handler to increase posession efficiency

Brisbane was crippled with injuries, from memory, so that game barely counts

We were too though.

It was a dead rubber though really.

It was for us, but Brisbane were playing for a finals spot

Games where teams dominate for four quarters are getting less common. Have a look at the last year or so. I think Ive seen more games where a side jumps out of the blocks and dominates for a quarter or so, then gets reeled in, than for all my footy watching days.

Maybe its interchange rotations, maybe its the draft evening sides up, but I reckon aren't that many games now where a side totally dominates for 4 quarters. Maybe one a round, if that?

We shouldn't confuse dominating a game for four quarters (which we have been regularly able to do against the likes of Richmond and Carlton in recent years) and playing strongly for four quarters.

For the latter, I would say that we have done this in a number of games we have won and lost in recent years. Some that come to mind include: the first games against Geelong, Adelaide, Brisbane and others in 2004, our loss to the Demons in that season and our finals games against Sydney and Port.

In 2005, I can recall a great game against the Dogs as well as the final against the Crows people already mentioned. Also the game against Geelong where we collapsed with injuries but kept trying our guts out up until the final siren. And the whispers in the sky game too (albeit, we made a few mistakes near the end, but it was a tense situation).

In 2006, there was the game against the Roos, which was a titanic struggle. And the game in Sydney. And (although perhaps I'm alone here) the final against the Dees where we tried our guts out despite having only about 16 fit players by the final siren.

In 2007 I can really only think of the first round game against the Swans.

Certainly none of the three so far this season.

Yeah the win over West Coast at Subiaco was ordinary at best, but then again thinking has never really been your strong point has it?

I don't know about that, but I do know that paying attention to the subject matter of a thread is something you have never even been  remotely able to get close to.

The topic of the post was "when did we last play 4 quarters of strong football". Go and get the tape of second half of the West Coast win - great win, I won't deny - watch it and then come and post on here about how strong you thought the last two quarters were.

Barks, you know I find most of your posts to be well thought out and your points to usually be valid. Could you ever disagree with anyone without acting like a child do you think.

I see Brisbane as being non competitive that day. It was the last game of the season, not a finals chance, nodesire to be there on the day.

The Saints had fun but you could hardly call this a competitive game with pressure.

Yes Brisbane could have still made the finals had they beaten us that night
