Bullied by Port yet again?

Post: # 554558Post rodgerfox »

Geelong beat us up a fortnight ago.

Port have bullied us physically for about 6 years. It's been embarrassing to watch.

Hearing Roo sledge Lovett last week was heart warming. It showed that at least in some way, he was prepared to cross a line. It wasn't physical, but it had a hard edge to it. It was a line that many say he shouldn't have crossed.
Every article I read saying that, made me smile. When have we heard or read about a Saint doing something 'bad' on-field since Hamill and Baker?

This is something that we haven't had since mid 2004. Pretty much the same time that Hamill and Goose were cut down.

If we get bullied again by Port tonight, I would be comfortable in saying that we simply do not have the personnel to win a flag. Not due to lack of skill, experience, pace etc. - but due to toughness.

Lenny Hayes is tough. He tried to rip Barry Hall's head off and didn't hesitate to do so when he saw him coming at him.
Baker is as tough and ruthless as they come.
Kosi is hard phyisically, but not mentally.
Max is hard.
Watching Armo go at it in the pre-season last year and so far this year should embarass many at the club.

Dare I say that's it.

Tonight is the time.

A loss tonight would be a disgrace. The only worse would be if it was due to being scared of Port again.

Yes I agree that in recent years that PA has bullied and intimidated the Saints....and have gained and edge due to it.

The Saints need to lift in this regard.

If it is wet as predicted it will be even more important.

Port are our bogey side.

Can't beat them over there.
Couldn't beat them in Tassie.

Yes,
but it was a moral loss.

We didn't deserve to win.

I'll get shot down for this but I think Williams is probably the best coach going around. He been able to take a sizable advantage over us with simple mind games.

Remember how he claimed the Tassie games gave Port a 'home ground' advantage because they kept licking us down there? I think we started to believe it.

Tough job for the Saints tonight, but tonight is the night. Port are yet to hit their straps, so it's now or never at AAMI. Great proud club, Port, but the Saints will win by 12 points.

You're spot on the money rodger! Port have intimidated us physically and psychologically since 1998 pretty much... We need to dish some back out if we're gonna have a chance.

Hayes and Bakes need to be the scrappers in the midfield. These guys have to be even MORE physical than they normally are due to the wet conditions. Armo can give them some relief.

Can't fault your list of "toughies" there Rodger, but I'd also add Bally in there....one of the most courageous (too much for his own good) players I've ever seen pull on the red white & black.

And then of course there's Harves...never an overtly intimidating player, but never took a backward step when it came to the physical stuff.

Yes they have had it over us no doubt but think the imbalance needs to take into account that they have not played us at the Dome for years..

At least this year we,ll have a crack at them on our own ground[where we have a similar advantage as they do at AAMI] in the run home.

Want to see the boys have a red hot crack and let the result take care of itself.

If we're the force we're supposed to be this year, tonight should be a no-brainer! I've tipped us for a win. Without Gehrig (strangely enough) our pace quickens! We should have enough forward pressure tonight to get the points! Plus we're got dear ol' Bakes back to pick up some of the nasties  So good!! :D

When they created LENNY HAYES (in the shadow of Harvs) they forgot to break the mold (again)- hence the Supremely Incredible Jack Steven!!

yep hopefully weve learnt our lesson.

i'd like to see the teamates stick up 4 eachother, instead of letting some Port guy take a cheap shot to someone with whos disadvantaged in a way.

loved it how in one game G-train was sent to the other side of the ground just to knock Fevola. then was sent bak to full foward.

were the better side no doubt! if it rains it will only help us in our tough hard play.

This is crap and a cop out.

If we are good enough we should have been able to beat them at their own dung heap and Tassie but we couldn't.

We need to understand why they dont perform in these games.

We seem to be able to do alright against Adelaide so the ground is not the reson. Its between the ears again.

Midfield clearances and clear winners are needed to make an effective forward line.

You need to protect the ball handler to increase posession efficiency

Well at least we were not bullied this match...that is not why we lost....

We had too many weak efforts by our top end.... Dal was terrible and bally I am afraid couold not realy get an effective disposal off.

X was delorable.......when is he going to learm...tacke around the hips.

Grammy got heaps of ball...but once again disposal was lacking....

Boys were reasonably hard at it....but geeze...poor disposal and hesitant play ruled.

We weren't bullied tonight? Hold on i could have sworn i saw Harvey nearly have his head taken off and then less than a minute the same happen to Lenny! And you know the only one to actually niggle back....yep a 20 yr old who has played what? 5 AFL games? Disgraceful :x :x :x

A remarkable trend continues. Three things are certain in life....death, taxes, and Port Adelaide defeating St. Kilda

It had nothing to do with the result of the game...

We got to enough contests etc.....even if a few players like Dal were missing in action.

What really creamed us was our poor use of the ball. Even the normally precise BJ was poor with his kicks.

Rare was the sants player that could kick to advantage......and a handball toa player in space rare too..

This was not due to being "bullied"...
