Baker Hudghton L.Fisher  can lock down
Goddard S. Fisher Fiora  a rebounding half back with foot skills
Montagna Dal Santo Gram  midfield run working between 50 arcs
Ball Riewoldt Armitage  hard tackling, goal kicking flankers
Milne Koschitzke Schneider  goal sneaks at foot of marking target

M. Gardiner
Hayes
Harvey

Interchange:

- King or McEvoy
- C. Gardiner OR Gehrig (if BOTH King and M.Gardiner do not play)
- Birss (need an extra shut down player as a tagger or relieve Hayes)
- Jack Steven (relieve Ball, Armitage or Schneider for a run in the midfield)

Dal Santo, Hayes and Harvey to rotate with Ball, Schneider and Armitage NOT off the bench.

Sam Gilbert would make the team instead of Fiora if he was not injured.

I like it but we do tend to over hype our own.

You talk about team then mention a bunch of individuals.

...

As a team we are atrociously bad. No cohesion or belief. Nothing to suggest we'll rise about the area of 8th -16th on the ladder.

i saw that last year when we bludgeoned carlton on raw talent.

no cohesion, but our talent was just so much ahead of theirs we beat them down in the end.

we saw glimpses of teamwork against footscray and geelong before breaking down again.

against sydney, as ugly as that game was, we played for each other.

depressing at it may seem looking at the port game, our talent to match it with the best is there.

changing the players isn't going to solve anything.

even against adelaide and the geecats in the preseason we showed what we are capable off.

1. is correct we have a very good list.
2. is correct we often don't play as a team together often enough.
3. nexus is happy when we fail.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks we have the talent on our list to be up the top.

So what's gone wrong?

To suggest our list requires no changes of players is to suggest right now its as good as the Cats.

It simply is not.

Changes are/will be required - to many passengers/unskilled to bridge the gap.

And yes - PLAYING AS A TEAM is required but when your skill level is optimised it means you cover less duds and playing as skillfull TEAM becomes easier.

I just want to know one question. Who's fault is it that we are not playing as a team?

Do we blame the players if they don't like RL and his style? (not talking about "game plan", more his personality, management/coaching style OK?).

IF the players don't "like" RL, then they won't be putting their hearts into it, especially if they look after number one before the jumper.

We've been a crap side since 2006, GT's final year......so have the players been disillusioned since then, covering (or turning on) one coach (GT) and now not buying into their new coach (RL)????

To be fair 2006 and 2007 were ruined by injury but I just want to know what has happened this year. We are playing a shocking style of footy and I can say it seems many agree. If we dont make the finals this year I am really scared what will happen next year.

Whilst to some people the "list" looks good on paper, reality is making it look like a bit of swiss cheese..........

I don't have a crystal ball big enough to be able to rate the Saints as a top 4 side,i'd like to see them make the eight playing the attacking football Ross has been talking about this week.....

Saints looking like a bottom 4 team in 2024.

According to Champion Data stats we are ranked 3rd.

Why are we 9th on the ladder?

Bit sick and tired of hearing how good our list is.... in reality our bottom eight that get a run most weekends have to be among the worst in the league.....

Rix - not even going there.
Maguire - just check out his Dream Team price.
L. Fisher - lacks pace.
A. Fiora - still can't believe he ducked his head on the wing in his 100th game.
R. Clarke - decision making?
S. Birss - a tagger for a reason.
J. Blake - see R. Clarke but with worse skills. Does try hard.
S. Dempster - haven't seen too much to cheer about here either.

Rix - doesn't get a regular run
Maguire - Who gives a toss about DT prices, he is also coming back from serious injury and backmen have low DT prices
Fiora - well
Clarke - Is a good player with bad form (no player at any clubs ever has bad form?)
Birss - a backup doesn't get a regular game
Blake -
Dempster - haven't seen enough

It's all right having your opinion but make stuff up to suit your point of view.

Every team has duds even Geelong

Is there only 1 point of blame for something like that?

Dont think so.

Fairly obvious I wouldve thought that:

a Coach isnt getting his message across
b We do have some selfish players on the list
c We carry to many players who are poorly skilled - by foot/decision.

Id also suggest we haven't been consistently playing as a team since 2006.

i believe we are a better team than where we are at the moment

the whole "looking good on paper" cliche is there for a reason, we have the players, we just need to get their confidence up, and get them playing positivly as a team

this is why i think our biggest problem is in the coaching department, as this is exactly what there job is, and its falling down somewhere along the line

I think people are right to suggest our lack of depth is being exposed but I can't help but think that the way the speed of the game has changed, even since as recently as 2006, has also been to our detriment.

I agree we should be better than what we are showing now but IMO your doing exactly what EVERYONE does to St Kilda

"they have the players on paper..."

Reality is "we have the REPUTATIONS on paper" and little else showing at present.

and they got those reputations from showing how much they're capable of

I really beleive that we will get MUCH better as the season progresses. It is still early days...remember the season is like a marathon..better we sort out now who's capable and who's not than in round 18 when it's too late. Remember...we beat carlton easily...who beat collingwood...who came within a kick of last years rampaging premiers...you do the math..
