Is it just me, but does anyone else feel more confident when he is about to receive and then dispose of the ball?

I really think his confidence, vision and attack on the ball is way up on previous goes in the 1's...

Maybe he is getting the right match ups now or maybe he has just matured...

I hope he makes something of himself, I really do.

seems to be using his body better, he could seriously hurt others if he decided to line them up. He will always be a running wing type player who has a great long kick but his skills under pressure or in close sometimes finds him out.

Could be he realises its his last chance, or maybe been tol he will get a decent run of games to prove himself.Right matchups you reckon ,reminded me of him standing Sandilands, that was a big ask

He did very well especially in the second half against the Dockers..good positive play.

I almost think it's the reverse.

My take on Gwilt last year was that after being run down by Davey he was always rushing and feeling hunted. This year while he hasn't done anything to get excited about, he's thinking his way through situations. The only trouble I have with him is that the amount of time between the moment he decides where the ball is going and it actually leaving his boot seems like forever... but his kicks themselves are low and sharp, so with a bit of confidence in him, I've got my fingers crossed he can take what has to be his last chance to impress and run with it.

I dont know about accuracy or the time he takes to dispose of the ball, but he certain can drill it 60metres plus.

I wouldn't be surprised if he was ahead of BJ as the biggest kick in the team.

sadly long kicking isn't really part of our game plan much, and we don't get to see those lovely long kicks much, except across the ground.

Schwarz was a big kick too from memory.

I would predict that, if Gwilt is kept in the team for a few more weeks and his confidence grows, we will see him coming on in leaps and bounds.

All the ingredients are there for him to become something more than a GOP, except perhaps for closing speed as a defender (which is why we all think he'd make a better contribution playing further forward).

He has good quick hands, he is an excellent kick, he can mark the ball, he is a physical presence in contests. All he needs to do is to read the play a bit better, which will come largely from confidence.

I've always liked him. If he doesn't make the most of his oportunities and cement a place in the top 25 or so at the club, I'll be very disappointed.

There's a certain natural touch to his kicking that appeals...

Reckon the 2nd best game he has played for us (besides the finals match when we beat the cows at Moron Park) I still have concerns about his decision making but maybe it's a confidence thing - he certainly drawn the short straw in some match ups he's been given in the past.
Agree he can kick like a mule if given the opportunity.

i would expect him to play as a forward in next few weeks to see where he fits in exactly

his strong lower body (Mal Michael) could be handy down back in next few years

C. Gardiner and Allen are better options for that role, i'd say.

Gwilt is a half back flanker, no doubt. His ability to kick long to a contest, or switch the play with his huge left boot are assets to the team. He has developed a reasonably good defensive side to his game as well.

Having him in the side frees up Gram and/or Goddard to play through the midfield and on the wing, where they (especially Gram) can't be exploited.

If it's Gwilt vs Blake for the last spot in the 22, who would you choose? Still Blake for mine at this stage.

I thought in the first half against sydney he was our only player who looked composed down back.

Was solid again this week. Been ok and should continue to get selected.

I don't really expect players to start to show their form till 22/23 really and they aren't body mature till 24/25

An injury in this time can really knock a player.

Tuckey at Richmond is an example of a quality late bloomer, you can probably through montagna in there as well.

Mini is about 22 as well I think.

Judd/Ball/Riewoldt are the exception, not the rule.

you are always going to get 3 or 4 players a draft who are match ready, but of the 100 odd players drafted, only about 20 to 30 tops are going to play 100 plus games, and only 3 or 4 of them will have much impact in their first couple of years.

I think folks would have had us trading montagna for a round 3 pick 2 seasons ago.

Fortunately big Sandilands doesn't know how to mark a footy!! In fact, doesn't know how to play much at all. He is just damn big and wins the tap-outs!!

I assume that this view of Allen is based on more than what we saw from him on Friday night.

And how anyone can think that C Gardiner is a credible option for any role in an AFL team is a total mystery to me.

i dont mind Gwilt. As far as rangy, versatile backmen go i rate hom above raph, l fisher and blake.

Have always been a fan of Jimmy, and have thought he is always too unfairly criticised around here... Given the oppotunity Blake has been given over the past 6 years, he will flourish into a far superior player...

Yet his selection is always in and out, and much like Raph, has not been given the opportunity to settle down and find his feet... Some players just arnt afforded that opportunity, where others are given way too much time.. For a 15 game player, he is doing well and has all the tools to continue his progress.... in our first 18 IMO..

I reckon he is better under pressure than Raph or LFisher..seems to keep his head, is a penetrating kick and is not afraid to put the body in. Keep playing him RL.

just on sandilands how wastful are freo having this tapout monster and not dominating the clearances ? if we had sandilands in 2004 to 2006 we would of won two flags at least
