Birss

Post: # 627083Post starsign »

Well done Birss! Great effort today, you certainly shoved it up the selectors!

Why he was ever dropped was a bewilderment to many, and I guess Mini was doing enough each game to maybe keep him out of a tagging role, but for mine he's much better value overall and surely better than Fiora

IMHO he's worth a guernsey in our best 22 and adds quite a bit with a few strings to his bow... tagging, ability to contribute with his own possessions, good defensive forward pressure worker and can reliably kick a goal!

Was he reported in that clash at the end of the last qtr?

I thought he was good today and CAN tackle.

I was impressed (have been all year tbh) with Birss.

I also liked:

Raph, Goddards, Gilberts, Dempsters, Montagnas, and C Jones games today - they ran, created and in Jones case applied some real pressure at key moments with some tackles.

Yep. I thought he was really unlucky when he got dropped the first time. And he doesn't miss any opportunity to impress IMO.

Knights was reported for the head high hit but will get off as Gilbert pushed him into it.

It's about time he got his chance and if he gets dropped again I will fair dinkum lose it, he is a valuable player and is definitely worthy of a spot in out bottom 6...

I have been a supporter of Birss since we recruited him & have been very disapointed with the negative posts he gets on this site. He is never going to be a superstar but his work rate & effort are just what our team needs. We all know he not overly blessed with pace but knows how to tackle & put his body on the line when its needed, but what I really admire about Shane Birss is when he is overlooked he takes it on the chin goes back to Casey & gives it all he got , no sulking just keeps trying to put his name back on the selection table.Glad to see a few positive posts on his effort today.

I would have him ahead of Mini because he can hurt the opposition more and a bigger body.

He played well today.

I coud not work out why he was dropped as he had been playing well....

Mini tio be faur played well when brought in, but Birss had been playing wel at Casey and it was a surprise to me that others were brought in, in front of him.

Birss did more than enough today to ensure that Ross and the coaches have a few selection dilemas for next week !!

I thought out of the side who played yesterday, the players with most to fear would be Birss and Eddy.

Let's face it - Birss to Ball and Eddy to X Clarke are clear upgrades heading into finals.

I was bewildered when Birss was dropped, and have been eagerly waiting his return. But we're just a bit up and about at the moment. Cannot see a Armitage, Geary or McQualter coming back in. Mini picked the wrong week to get sick.

birss was fantastic, gives us an option up forward as a defensive stopper with the ability to hurt with his good hands and kick for goal.

When he plays forward on the oppositions rebounder we need to use him more often. This makes his oppenent more mindful of the damage he can do and this will lead to a lower output doing the other way.

If we can cover raph down back I would be willing to have a forward line of

roo gwilt raph milney schneider birss and work either birss or raph further back if we can a 5 man forward line. Then rest kosi there for periods of time with x slipping down to do some damage.

Having just watched the game, I hope Birss stays in.

Sticks his tackles and has that low level of gravity where he stays down with the twisting turning player in front of him.

ive never liked him

but in saying that.he has improved and deserves a spot in the final 22......but knowing the chop and change the selection panel does each week it wouldnt surprise me if he misses out again.

apart from bally missing out, i think that was the side that is our strongest
(not including goose and bakes)
