The Pick 26 Trade

Post: # 627148Post Mr Magic »

It's now the end of round 21 and the deal we arranged with Sydney to get Schneider and Dempster for our Pick #26 seems finally to be paying off.

Schneider seems to ahve taken a long time to 'fit in' with us but his form over the past month (bar teh Collingwood game) has added a dimension to us that we haven't had since early 2004 when Guerra was playing well.
It was very noticable today how 'pumped' he and is teammates were whenever any player did something good. He finally appears at ease with his role in the team.

His combination of him and Milne in teh forward line is giving opposition teams a headache to match up on.

Dempster has been a really good pickup for us, especially since he cost us virtually nothing.
Not only is he an effective 'stopper' on smalls and mediums, but he is an effective runner off the backline with a very good long kick in his arsenal.

That's not to say that either won't have bad games in future but it would appear that the benefits of this trade are starting to show.

Agreed.

And Schneider is 24 and Dempster is 23.

Both have 5 years and 100 games left for the Saints.

Great trade.

May well end up an even better trade.

agree. the forward set up is starting to look pretty potent and with quick delivery into it we can cause some damage in september if we're lucky.

gwilt is looking capable as an extra marking option and also good to see bj kick a couple.

Who did we trade to get gram?

Yes, I do realise that, but who?

Pick #23 ... ended up being Matthew Moody, who has played 30 games in 4 years and will probably be delisted at the end of the year.

Thanks

It may well have been Jay Nash or Adcock...

I don't mind Gram but his disposal at times costs us...

Although Gram was not in the trade with Guerra, we lost him in the same year we picked up Gram and I feel Guerra is a far better kick to position.

Maybe we should have Guerra as well

Sydney also getting good value from Marty Mattner, who they essentially traded for Schneider and Dempster. (They upgraded their pick 28 to pick 26, if I recall)

yeah righto...

wouldn't get a game for us at the moment but plays for a side that is second on the ladder???

Gets more possessions a match and IMO it would have been good to have both in the side...

Guerra is far better in his disposals than Gram...

again would be great to have the both but we gave him up for nothing ...

yep, of course he wouldn't get a game for us and yet plays for a side that sits second

He was dropped off the list because he wasn't performing and his 'attitude' was deemed to be less than that required.

We knew he had ability - we traded for him from Port Adelaide in the first place.

Guerra today- 32 touches

We used him in the wrong spot. although a very capable fwd pocket player (7 goals for us once) he is a better back pocket player...

With Guerra in the team it would free, either one of Gram or Gilbert onto the wing which is where we will try and get them to play eventually

Can you imagine with Matt Maguire back?

he takes CHB, Blake takes up 3rd option and S Fisher and or Gram will be played in the middle - the midfield player we need that has dash and speed

we dont need a fast midfielder we just need one more decent backman (maguire fit)
