Milney makes a top ten

Post: # 684928Post saintbrat »

:)
10. Stephen Milne (St Kilda), 2000 – selection 23
Once a member of Essendon's reserves side, Milne's record speaks for itself. With 331 career goals, he averages two a game – a fantastic record for a player expected to be at the base of every pack. An 11-goal haul against the Brisbane Lions late in 2005 is a reflection of his uncanny goal sense and ability to provide firepower when needed.
Playing honours: International Rules Representative 2002; St Kilda leading goalkicker 2002; St Kilda pre-season premiership player 2004.
Career matches: 165

Milne has a better goals per game average than Scott Lucas from Essendon.

Milne is a very under rated player by most fans and even some Saints supporters

according to All the Stats- Milney only needs ONE more of his average years ( 60 goals) to go past Fraser to become No. 4 on the siants gola kicking list- Not bad for 87 years.

I'm sure this is not your mistake, but Milney also played in the 2008 pre-season premiership.

correct it's the AFL mistake-- there have been several publications recently that have ' neglected" to mention the Saints 2008 win.

Aaron Davey is about 5 spots too high. Good player but very over-rated.

Considering Sewell, Robertson, M.Johnson are all best and fairest winners and Milne kicks twice as many goals. whats Davey done, besides some exciting tackles?

Oh well.

No love for Bock? He was rookie listed wasn't he?
Same with Rutten I believe...

IMO Sewell will take the number 2 spot after all is said and done...

yes. he does.

EDIT: or at least he had at the end of 2007.
NR kicked ahead of him slightly on average in 2008.

NOTE: they both improved past the two goals per game mark.

ok I didn't check--- I knew I'd get caught if I didn't check my facts

fact was for a few years he has managed to get near 60 per year.

Well it's pleasing to see some recognition for his achievements. Not to mention for his height, impressive stats. He's had to work hard to get where he is now, i don't think being an AFL footballer is something he takes for granted.
Another solid year coming up, like i always say, keep working Milney and best of luck for '09.
Go Saints.

Good one for Milne.

Very underrated player.

Would hate him if he played for another team.

But as he is a Saints - gotta love the tiprat.

Bock's a bit stiff to miss out, he is an AA player.

Same with Ben Rutten I think..

I would rate these two better than Aaron Davey...

Agree. 331 goals from 160 odd games speaks for itself. Very very good record over a long period. i rate him. 2.0 goal average is very very good.

(By comparison Schneider and Kosi average 1 goal per game.)

Aaron Davey only looks dangerous but Milne is genuinely dangerous.
There is not a small forward in the game that out scores him. :D :D :D
