Write an article for Saintsational?
We will soon be re-introducing the front page for Saintsational
If there is anyone here that would like to write an article to feature on the front page, we will be happy to display it. It can be on anything St Kilda related, there are just a few basic things to remember:
- It must be your own words (ie. you can't just submit an article that featured in the newspaper )
- If you quote any sources, please give them credit
- Please give your article a title
- At least 250 words
- In English (with correct spelling and grammar).
If your article has met these requirements, when it is finished PM it to me and the administrators will review it
The articles will be appear in the order they are received (ie. the first article I receive will be the first to appear on the front page).

A few topics off the top of my head:Great idea, i think this will really take off!
I would love to contribute, just can't think of a specific topic to discuss.
Any ideas would be handy?
- A review of the 2008 season
- A look at the new recruits
- A preview of the 2009 season
- Potential starting 22 players for Round 1
- Expectations for NAB Cup (who will debut, return from injury, ...)
Or anything else that you can think of

I claim all credit for this idea! Sent it into battye earlier today and now he claims it as his genius idea!
One of the big things we could add could be training reports.

Fantastic idea
I'm sure our writer-types or budding journos would like the chance to contribute.
Of course I'm biased, but if we could create something akin to Toffeeweb (www.toffeeweb.com), I think it would be a fantastic tool for supporters. I know I chuck up that suggestion every year when we discuss this, but it's great. It would serve as a perfect front page.
Any other teams doing any similar stuff? Let's assemble a few ideas...

The toffeeweb looks great! But im assuming the amount of time and effort to update each week or even day would be a nightmare. Unless someone has the expertise and time to effectively update it?evertonfc wrote:Fantastic idea

The Front page doesn't have to be too flashy- include the ladder, membership tally, feature articles perhaps and a logo and i think you're right as rain!
Go saints in '09!

Maybe over time it will expand into something as complex as Toffeeweb. We will start simple though

Heh, yes, something to aim at for the futurebattye wrote:Maybe over time it will expand into something as complex as Toffeeweb. We will start simple though
However, Toffeeweb - the front page at least - is actually pretty simple. It's probably updated about three times per week during the season and about two times per week during the off-season.
And all they do is plonk one article on top of the other, as you can see from the date stamps on the bottom of each article.
I like what they've done with Bomberblitz, but I don't like how they copy+paste the whole article on (just a descriptive opening paragraph, ala TW, would do). That way you can quickly scan over which articles you want to read.
However, the basic stuff on the right hand side is very sharp - that's what we should be trying to incorporate.
Anyway, I'm not clued up enough in PHP to design one of these puppies - or, more to the point, make it functional, so I'll let that part of it go to someone who can do it.
I suspect that someone will be Battye...or one of the tech-whiz kids
