Nicky Winmar WA Hall of Fame
Just saw on the news that Nicky Winmar either is or may get inducted into the WA Hall of Fame. Fantastic news if he is.
I'm not sure because I have blocked ears at the moment and all I heard was Nicky being mentioned.

Quite a few, i remember i was there at Waverley in 97 for his 200th game making him the first aborignal to reach the feat.
I also remember when he crossed to the Dogs and i was about 6 and i cried my eyes out, will never forget the first game he played against us i had my number 7 jumper on a a tear in the eye.
Still cheered for him when he reached his 250th for the dogs. Finished the game after i think.
Congratulations Neil

i love him as well....never beaten.........i saw him do things on a footy field that just blew me away.......including a handball to the ground along a curved boundary line and around the feet of an oncoming opponent.......nicky just stepped around the player and regathered the ball before going on his merry way ...no fluke either ....i saw him do it more than once........
.everybody still loves lenny....and we always will

Yeah I remember at Moorabbin he was having a set shot from about 20 meters out dead in front and when he went to kick it and the player on the mark jumped up, he ran around him drawing Lockett's opponent in hand balling over his head to plugger on the goal line for an easy goal he could have easily kicked himself.stinger wrote:Winmar7Fan wrote:That's my boy.

I don't know who was more shocked all of us or Lockett. Not really one of the most proudest things I remember of him but as it was he was able to do and get away with just about anything.

It's funny...people often think of his magical ability and incredible skills but Nicky was also as tough as nails. He could lay a massive bump and mean tackle and unlike many of his modern day counterparts, he was not afraid to get to the bottom of packs.I liked it when he cleaned up Schwass. Broke his arm from memory.
I know we've had better (Lockett for a start) but he's still my favourite player...ever.
