After Round 7.....we will know where we are at.
The first 3 rounds have been superb ....well at least the last 11 Quarters anyway
This is the best we have played sinced 2004...and indeed one can argue we are better as we are playing "complete" football..superb in both our defensive and offensive games.
What has many excited, including me, is not so much that we are winning...but HOW we are playing. The pressure, the running, the backing up, the intensity, the TEAM play, the decisiveness (indecison and hesitation often costing us dear in 07 and 08), the hunger, the passion, the grunt....it all seems to be there.
But also like may Saints there is that fear that it may not be sustained.
However as many have said..it is only Round 3...and our opponents middling (though Swans and Crows did make the 8 last year).
After 7 rounds in most years you havae reasonable idea of how moost teams are travelling.
In Round 5 we play our main Bogey team in Port at AAMI.
In Round 6 we play the Dogs who currently look ro be Top 4 Bound.
And then in Round 7 we play the Pies...who could finish anywhere from 8th to 4th.
So after 7 rounds we should have a much clearer idea of how we are travelling...and whether we are sustaining our improvement.
However the signs are good.....with a number of players outside of the 22 pushing strongly for promotion...with those inside of it eager to not give up their spot.

good post
myself, i am really looking forward to the boys getting another 10 games under their belt and facing the cats at the Dome in round 14.
(i think i might fly over for that one)
i wanna see how well we stack up against the cats......
but granted, it will be good to see where we are at after the port and dogs games.
ive been to god knows how many power saints games over here and yeah, they are our interstate hoodoo side thats for sure....and nine times outta 10 its friggin wet too.
im looking forward to that game in a week or so......
dogs games are always good, plenty of run and rebound by both of us.
<<loving footy at the moment, can get enough

great post.
yes as saints supporters we all have the fear of carrying form for the whole season but the attack, vigour and down right mongrel we have shown coupled with our respect for the opposition but even greater respect for fellow team mates ability has me really excited. Lyon has brought a lot to this club and it is only on the up.
for the first time ever i am really excited about taking on port.
dogs will be an interesting one. reckon we have the wood on them
pies we will thump

On what basis do you come to that conclusion?MC Gusto wrote:

They towelled us up comprehensively twice last year.
I reckon the Dogs are one bad defeat away from losing a lot of of oomph. Maybe WC this week might drop them a notch? All it would take is for WC to play like they did against Port, Bullies to be flat, and Subiaco to be baking in 35 degree heat...Not beyond the realms of possibility...
That said, Dogs are a good side now. We'll have to be extra special.

I'm just concerned about the day after tomorrow....
We seem to be in the zone at the moment, and it does feel as good as 2004... but I'm hoping that at the very least the experience of going through that and letting it slip has added extra steel to the resolve this time.... and I think we have a much better group and structure behind the players.
Only time will tell of course, but I'm going to enjoy this journey.

agree with the OP.
i'm reserving judgement on the extent of our improvement until we can knock over port adelaide over there or the bulldogs here, preferably both.
that should give us a fair idea of whether we are the real deal, but the signs atm are good.
the club needs to have both feet firmly grounded in reality.

You can never underestimate the value of big bodies in the clinches. We have not 1, but 2 seriously aggressive huge men in the ruck - and combined with the return of the aggressive Bakes and the fierce Ball, all of a sudden we have the grunt back in the midfield we were all crying out for last year. We also have some big bodies to come back into defence i.e. Goose and Max. Injuries will be our key - keep them to a minimum and nothing serious and we will be giving the 2009 flag a red hot crack.
I want to stand for something. I'm a loyal person and I think at the end of my career it will be great to look back and know that I'm a St Kilda person for life.

Totally agree with what u said there. I also believe that round 7 is the earliest that we can make a fair assesment of our team, in terms of its chances for the year. The start has been great, but the games that we have coming up will be quite crucial for showing if we are indeed genuine contenders or not. I expect a minimum of a 5-2 record after 7 rounds.

thats the problem we can't go over the top with whats been happening. because we have not played the top teams or the bogey teams. would love to be 6-1 and would hate to be 4-3. all the good work in the first 3 rounds would be for nothing. then we would be considered to be a hyped up team going nowhere again if we went 4-3HarveysDeciple wrote:After Round 7 - 4-3 dissapointing

i think we should be able to beat all those teams, but whether we do or not, thats another matter.
Dogs are obviously a good team, and will be tough to beat. But i think last year we got the jump on them both times in the first quarter, but then we let their midfield dominate, i think it was griffen that tore us apart first game
and to my frustration, collingwood always seem to compete, especially against us, (if they had have beaten us in the semi, i would have been incredibly angry, there is no way theyre better than us, but they would have beaten us 3 times last year!)
and port always seem to find a way against us, and it being at AAMI, there is a good chance 'good port' will be out to play
So we should be all teams, but there is a potential that we lose all of them... sure hope that doesnt happen
