saintspremiers wrote:To me, it's a very simple equation:

(1) We have 1 confirmed out, King

(2) Lyon is loathe to make unforced changes (why should he??)

(3) Kosi is not in the extended bench - I assume if he misses the cut we could cop a fine? (I mean, surely a 7 man bench should contain those that will be discarded, and all named 18 play???)

(4) So put together points 1, 2 and 3 and you get:

IN: Kosi
OUT: King.

Simple!

Kossie is allowed to be named at Full Forward until 45 minutes before the game if he like and then be replaced by the emergencies......No fine involved I dont think.

McEvoy will defiently play. We need to go in with 2 rucks (not incl. Blake or Kosi) or this will through our structure off.

I hope Lyon hasn't put Kosi in the 22 just to put off Eade and he actually is fit, but I'm not feeling 100% about him.

So if Kosi plays it should be IN: Kosi, McEvoy, OUT: King (inj.) and probably Eddy.

Could it be that young Dawson is not feeling 100% after last week??? He did seem to take a few heavy knocks last week, one looked bad for his shoulder??
Is that why Miles has been added to the the list at this stage? Just a thought. Why name him otherwise? The last 5 weeks the team has had very little changes to it, yet this week there seems to be more possible changes than we have had all year.
Can anyone shed some light on Dawson by any chance?

Miles was an emergency last week too. Nothing to do with Zack.

6 players selected for both St Kilda and Sandringham
Schneider, Gwilt, R.Eddy, Armitage, McEvoy, Miles

If Koschitzke is really going to play then 3 will play for St Kilda.
2 will play for Sandringham.
1 will be held back as a reserve for St Kilda (utiilty type not McEvoy).

If Koschitzke is NOT going to play then 4 will play for St Kilda.
1 will play for Sandringham.
1 will be held back as a reserve for St Kilda (utiilty type not McEvoy).

If only 1 of the six plays for Sandringham we know that some one is going to drop out of the St Kilda team = Koschitzke.

Kosi for King, with Blake and Gardiner to ruck and Kosi to play forward.

By some chance if Kosi doesn't come up fit, then IMO McEvoy in and Blake still to ruck with Gardiner playing up forward.

I imagine they're pbly just giving him a 2-3 week spell in the seconds to get his match fitness up.

Kosi should have another week, just for prudency IMO.

McEvoy for King IMO.

Maintain current structure IMO.
the structure for most of the season (4 matches) has been two recognised ruckmen (gardiner and king) and two recognised key forwards (riewoldt and kosi).

i hope both kosi and mcevoy play.
then who else to leave out?

I would think that they won't risk Kosi

Back related hamstring and with his history, why would you?

We have bigger fish to fry!!!

We need Kosi 110% fit, these sorts of injuries if you don't get right can go on forever.

A. Hamill 2 weeks!!!

Like who? Geelong? Does this mean don't play him until the Geelong game?

No, but if we believe and if the club believe that we are the real deal this year then surely some long term planning comes into it. Don't tell me that the club are not now basing training and fitness around having players peak in sept.

If the difference b/w our sept dream and a win in round 6 is a fit Kosi then I kno what I want to happen.

Noticed a few in here have questioned Baker's spot this week. Seriously, what a joke. Bakes is one of the first players picked every week. Would have to have a string of absolute shockers to go out of this side.

Ross would have picked a match-up for Bakes the minute the Doggies game finished last week.

Also don't like the talk of Blake going back into the Ruck to pinch hit. Has been nothing short of sensational since securing a spot in defence. We need to replace a ruckman with a ruckman, even if Kosi plays (which I doubt), McEvoy must come in too IMO.

if raph is not selected because he needs more match fitness after injury then there should be no way we should risk kosi then.

Just want to echo the statements that not having backline back up means rucking blke will be a mistake

first time this year I have felt our team was a little lopsided. But on the other hand most of us thought that 2 rucks would make us top heavy. 5 weeks is a long time in football.

If Raph needs multiple games at the Zebras to get his match fitness right, after playing in round 1 and playing well until his unjury, how many matches with the Zebras will Max need? About 3 or 4?

WHAT THE?

I am flabbergasted that people still consider Bakes to be on the borderline of the team.

He is absolutely vital to the fabric of this team.

Would be on Ross' "Can't Afford to Lose this bloke to injury" list.

Don't throw that out & then try to soften it by saying 'personally i prefer him in'.

Hmmm,

so what if Gardiner goes down during the game? Then we'd be left with a returning Kosi and Blake to ruck. Rewind back a couple of seasons.

I'm surprised that they haven't given the chance to Benny Mac. I realise that would mean dropping someone like Eddy - but IMO relying on just the one ruckman with a hardly startling record of durability is a concern.

Oh well, Ross and the guys know what they are doing I guess. At least Minson and Hudson are only average ruckmen and less likely to expose Blake or Kosi.

I'm not surprised about this.

Lyon really doesn't seem to like to drop players from his side after a win.

Since things turned around in the middle of last season, he has only apparently dropped uninjured players on three occasions after we have won a game (and I can only say "apparently" because there might have been small niggles involved in these decisions).

Once involved Gwilt, who was dropped for Fiora in the middle of a string of wins. Once involved McQualter, who was dropped for Birss. And once involved Birss, who was dropped for our QF in favour of X Clarke (who was woeful).

It's an understandable approach. Personally, I would have liked to see Raph come into the team in place of Eddy.

I think it's a reasonable gamble to go in with Gardi and Kosi as our rucks. I think we are strong enough around the ground to overcome the Dogs even if Hudson and Minson dominate.

The other facto here may well be that after 5 weeks that Gardi is the fittest abd best match-conditioned he has been for years and his TOG can be ramped up.

I would jave liked to have seen Mac...but the Dogs are also a very mobile team...so playing an extra runner is probablya good more and could be quite tellin stamina wise late in the game.

Geez, I hope he gets through the game; he is so important to our structure.

Takes so much heat off Roo and makes the defenders very nervous about his presence!
