How many (few) Saints fans were there last night???
Of the 46,880 fans, I reckon there were, tops, 15,000 Saints fans.
Thoughts??

I would say more than that
but die hards stayed to see the guys leave the ground
many would have gone early - when win assured or just before end to get home before midnight.

More than that I reckon
I arrived at about 5.30..and the footbridge was swarming with Saints..granted the Pies reserved seat holders would arrive later
Watching the game back this morning I reckon we held our own well in crowd noise in the 1st half..and after that it progressively sounded more and more like a Saints home game

There seemed to be a fair few Saints supporters there, although obviously outnumbered by the Pies (no surprise). But what was dissapointing for me was the lack of noise we generated! We are on top of the ladder and are playing great footy, if there is any time to go nuts and cheer on your team its now!! The noise level did seem to lift in the last quarter...but that was junk time obviously.

Actually I reckon noise-wise on TV we held our own OK. hard to tell from where I was sitting cos I was surrounded by Saints. The CS/MW bays behind the goals were loud...and I think everyone in those bays got their pic in the paper or their head on TV lolQuestionOfAccuracy wrote:There seemed to be a fair few Saints supporters there, although obviously outnumbered by the Pies (no surprise). Gut estimate, of the 46G I'd say 20G were Saints fans. Where the bloody hell were they? Geez, after 6 good wins, what more does it take?
Well, I know the answer to that. We still need a really good media spruiker. I know Ross has loosened up a bit but we need someone else. Our current Pres is more retiring than a platypus in winter and our current CEO - who is our current CEO? We need the Board to get (or hire) some Saints supporter who can do the job (not Russell Morris). It's not easy, but it needs to be done, otherwise we will be stuck on 30,000 members and 20,000 turn up.

Personally I think many were opposing Monday night footy, which I found disappointing. Here are our boys on the main stage, breaking ratings records...
Thursday or Monday night footy is going to happen, I don't see how not going along is proving anything? I get that there are legitimate reasons that people cannot make it, no issue at all....but if you didn't go purely in opposition....well, I find that annoying....
There I said it

Why go to a game you know we are going to win, on a ridiculous week night and put money into the Collingwood and Collo coffers?perfectionist wrote:Gut estimate, of the 46G I'd say 20G were Saints fans. Where the bloody hell were they? Geez, after 6 good wins, what more does it take?
If the numbers that left early are an accurate reflection, it may be that Monday night football is not successful at all.

But it's at the same ground as our home matches?Spinner wrote:For some reason our fans don't seem to come to away matches....
I appreciate the cost factor, if we are talking about home members. But, for those who aren't members (too many), where's the difference? I hope the Board is thinking about this and developing strategies for redress.
I must point out that the numbers that left early were mostly Collingwood supporters, funny about that....Bernard Shakey wrote:Why go to a game you know we are going to win, on a ridiculous week night and put money into the Collingwood and Collo coffers?perfectionist wrote:Gut estimate, of the 46G I'd say 20G were Saints fans. Generally true, but I reckon we had more fans at the Dogs away match than the Pies one.jonesy wrote:It's always the same. The absolute max amount of supporters we ever get to an away game would be about 25k to the old MCG blockbusters. Otherwise it's usually about 10-15K. Can't remember us ever dominating the stands for a big crowd away match
Of course, the Monday night vs Sunday Twilight could be a big issue, but I reckon many Saints fans may have also assumed they couldn't get in, given it was a Pies home game at Docklands, as opposed to the bigger MCG.
You're right. The AFL worked it in such a way that it would always be a "success", and it is more than likely something we will have to get used to.ohwhenthesaints! wrote:Personally I think many were opposing Monday night footy, which I found disappointing. I oppose the whole idea of monday night footy and I didn't go, but would I have if work / time etc had not made it so difficult? Yes I would have. Much as I'd like to say I'd make a stand purely on principal, the fact is I love watching the Saints play live. Thats why its so disappointing that the real supporters just don't matter to the AFL.

I was excited about going, and I guess reading all the posts leading up to the event dampened my enthusiasm a bit. I did end up having a great night, the atmosphere was good...and our boys put on a great show.

The amount of cheering/noise our fans make has been disapointing for years now. I bang on about it (especially on SS) whenever I get the chance in the hope that on mass the supporters collectively do something about it. I still reckon the club and the cheersquad have a role to play.saint66au wrote:Actually I reckon noise-wise on TV we held our own OK. hard to tell from where I was sitting cos I was surrounded by Saints. I still remember the 2005 prelim having all of the atmosphere of a ladies croquet match and that was even early on in the game when we were on top and then when it got close and then when the Swans hit the front. The Saints crowd just sat down and made very little noise. And most games I go to it is like that. So I'll say it again, what is wrong with our real support on match day. Geez I miss Moorabbin.
