Had a shocker today, and has been pretty ordinary so far this season. With CJ assuming the role as out number 1 tagger, has the game past Bakes now?

i reckon he's tired

hasn't played a lot of footy over 2 years and IMO is in decline very quick

good player though

give him a week or 2 off and he'll be back

The worst game I have ever seen him play........

when he starts running backwards with the ball, he gets into real trouble......seems to have ZERO agility....

Bakes is struggling with his body bigtime. I'm suprised he went so well as he did earlier in the year. He came into the season very sore, and it would only be getting worse. He's going to need a freshen up before the finals if we want him at his best

FFS Bakes had a bad one today (as did many others).

He's been very good all year IMO.

I continue to be flabbergasted at these constant efforts to write him off.

I don't think he has been very good. I think has performed his role and contributed, but not very good. Bakes is getting on, and doesn't have the influence he once used to.

At his best he was extremely fit and could match it in the middle, tagging players like the Judd's and Abletts. Now he is more of your back pocket player. His aggresiveness and toughness is a real upside, though now I think it's not out weighing his lack of polish and creativness.

Don't see the fuss. He ran off his line. He gave the ump every chance to blow the free. Pinged. Bad luck.

YES, it was only a few weeks ago that people were saying that it was Bakes' presence on the field that structured us up which was/is intergral to our winning run !!

Its not just this week. Lately he is struggling. Today was poor.

Is the game getting too quick for him? Is he carrying an injury? Many uncharacteristic fumbles & poor decisions today...

Hope he can get that spark & hardness back...but imo his position in the seniors under question atm...

One who will a break in a few weeks. Today, rather than a smaller opponent or one of his size he had a stronger, faster and younger opponent. Experience should not be dismissed too quickly.

huh? watch the replay! He barely went off his line and was tackled almost straight away. That whistle to play onwas very quick to beat the tackle.... shocking decision in a game where not many free's were paid.

baker is struggling and could be forced out as our best backline comes into place.

Worst decision I've seen this year.

He ran almost straight back. Was looking around the corner to his target but running straight back. Power was at least 2 metres over the mark when the umpire called play on.

Worst case he should have called it back and reset the mark. Really it should have been 50m.

i was absolutely stunned at that decision near the end of the first half. I was at the game, so i couldnt hear the umps, i assumed it must have been touched, but on the replay there is no way it was touched. He went straight back, and even if he did, the ump has to call play on before the player, luke power, is allowed to make his move. I was waiting for the 50 call, and it never came, in the context of the game, it was a massive goal. Disgraceful decision, appalling, umps were shocking today, both sides have reasons to complain, but that baker one was the worst ive seen all year

Were we all watching the same game? There were a couple of other poor performances that I'd single out before Bakes. Always plays an honest, gutsy game IMO.

As with Blake Bakes was below par today but imo he has been a big reason why we are 9 & zip,

Bakes had a bad day but if this form continues and i am not saying it will there is still a role in the midfield for him as a crash bang negating player floating forward or back.

When does Sandringham have a bye? Thats when we should rest a few players and give some of the others a go. Also a good opportunity to christian Lynch next week against Melbourne. Maybe give Eddy and Maguire a run as well, although I am not sure they played today.

why wait until Sandy has a bye - just because they dont play in the seniors doesn't mean they have to play for Sandy

?? Player - General Soreness - 1 week
