Dont you love having a coach who understands that to build success you need players to feel some heat for performance?...even kids......its the big time Ben and Id love to see you just show a few glimpses in the A league that your a genuine prospect.....I know he can nows his chance to deliver.

"Ben’s not guaranteed anything. He’ll get a run this week and if he holds his end up he’ll get another one. It is up to him to perform, otherwise we will look at other options,â€

Ross Lyon media conference
St Kilda coach Ross Lyon says the Saints are becoming victims of their own success as he accused rival clubs on Thursday of beginning to use negative tactics against his high-flying team.

The Saints have won the first 11 games of the season for the first time in their history and after last week's win over North Melbourne have just completed their best ever winning streak in the AFL.

But over the past month the Saints' output in front of goal has decreased with the team having passed 100 points in a match just once, after doing so six times in the first seven rounds.

Lyon says that is more due to the tactics of the Saints' recent opposition than their own form as he looks forward to seeing his team come up against another attack-minded team in fourth-placed Carlton this week after coming up against competition strugglers such as Melbourne and North Melbourne in the past fortnight.

"We have come up against teams whose focus has been more negative, just to stop us," Lyon said on Thursday, when asked about the Saints' scoring decline in recent matches.

"There has been a lot of holding and grappling and all of a sudden we have become involved in high stoppage games, like the one on the weekend when there were 118 stoppages (against North) when we have averaged about 80 (per game)."

"(Opposition) teams think we can't go with them (St Kilda) so we just negate them and it becomes a dour, intense struggle so it’s probably limited our scoring a little bit."

But Lyon said learning to cope with different tactics from opposition sides was all part of becoming a top side in the AFL, saying Geelong - which has won 53 of its past 56 matches and is also unbeaten this season - has had to put up with such tactics for a long time.

"Geelong get different things thrown at them every week - you come up against teams with a zone defence, teams that play man-on-man and you have got to have the ability to adapt and work your way through the challenges put in front of you."

However Lyon is expecting a different kind of challenge this week against a Carlton side that is ranked fourth in the competition for points scored this year - just one place behind the Saints.

"What we will get on Friday night is two really exciting midfields up against each other and which team provides the quality entries to their forwards will come out on top," he said.

The Saints have won their past 11 games against Carlton - a club record - but with the Blues now having their best team since their last win over St Kilda back in 2001, Lyon knows this will be the toughest clash against the Blues for some time.

"We are excited about playing a top four team and they have got as talented a midfield as you can get and they have some powerful forwards so it's going to be a really big challenge for us," he said.

Lets not forget our forwards and our miserly defence.

May be the game will be a shoot out ! Fev vs Roo & Kosi.

Hopefully not a dour struggle like with the Nth Melb scraggers !
