Midfield Goalkicking Accuracy

Post: # 787720Post bergholt »

Man, I wish our mids were kicking a few more goals!

Goddard: last 8 games - 2.7
Montagna: last 9 games - 1.10
Hayes: last 10 games - 0.4

Even across the whole season most of them have been pretty inaccurate:

Dal Santo: 13.5
Goddard: 13.9
Gram: 11.15
Jones: 7.3
Montagna: 6.17
Ray: 4.7
Ball: 3.5
Hayes: 3.5

Though some are still going OK:

Dal Santo: last 8 weeks - 7.1
Gram: last 8 weeks - 6.5
Jones: last 8 weeks - 2.0

I don't think it's that they're bad goalkickers, just that this season they're running harder than ever before, Joey especially. Probably pretty tough to kick for goal accurately when you're buggered.

I have said it before only to get told we are winning.....

Goddard: last 8 games - 2.7
Montagna: last 9 games - 1.10
Hayes: last 10 games - 0.4

They are probably buggered ........but Jeez what a difference it would make !!!!!!1

Could probably add McQualter and Eddy in those stats too, although I realise they've been spending fair parts of games in our forward line.

Anyone know what Mini's goalkicking stats are? I'm sure they must be good. Rarely seems to miss and must be up around the 15 goal mark for the year.

Big one for me is Goddard from the set shot. How could you be that good a kick and shank those kind of set shots, would be like Andrew Gaze being a bad foul shooter.

Maybe this year?

The great thing about him is he just seems to get one when we need it.

BJ was always the one I'd want kicking for goal to win the match if it came down to it, but lately, I'm not so sure. Looking at some of those returns I don't know who I would want. :?

Yeah, they're not really mids this year, but here are the small forwards:

Milne: 36.17 (last 5 games - 15.7 + 3 goal assists)
Schneider: 24.12 (last 7 games - 11.5 + 6 goal assists)
McQualter: 17.6 (last 7 games - 8.1 + 10 goal assists)
Eddy: 4.2 (last 4 games - 3.2 + 4 goal assists)

All kicking much better than (most of) the mids, which lends support to the theory that the mids are just running too hard to be able to hit the goals consistently.

i would put the ball in milnes hands
on the 50 it would be BJ

Be ruthless- drop Goddard until he fixes his goal kicking accuracy! Actually it doesn't really matter much, as we are winning and don't even need to build the percentage. I would back Mini for a set shot on the siren -his skills are great.

numbers are deceptive when expressed as a percentage.
we're getting great return from our mids in terms of overall shot volume.
gram has been awesome all year from beyond the arc.

Interesting that CJ is one of the most accurate....many on here, including me, question his footskills, that seems to suggest he is not a bad kick for goal.......however I do suspect he only kicks from very close range...

these are very poor figures for two guys who can generally kick to position as well as anyone.

i know it's a different thing when you put two goal posts there ... but spot up a guy in the crowd and aim to hit him on the left tit.

needs some homework after training.

If these guys could kick straight we would be unstoppable

Saints are having an amazing season.

The reason goal kicking is brought up at all is that Geelong have been a team that can slot goals from 50 mts out ( not so hot this yr)

Its one of the few areas Saints could do better . Come finals time greater accuracy would be fantastic for the Saints.

Been a problem for a few years now, needing more goals from the mids. Was surprised at Joey's results. He is a beautiful kick, until you put 4 white sticks in front of him!

Tony Lockett kicks 10 goals

what?

1: no percentages have been mentioned in this thread

2: how are percentages deceptive? 4 out of 10 is 40%, is that confusing?

the ones that are out of bounds on the full and the ones that dont make the distance....riewoldt's stats looks better than they actually are as they dont take this into consideration...every game he kicks a few that done make the distance and one out of bounds thus not counting as misses...
