Grand Final Weather - COLD, WET and WINDY !!!!!!

Post: # 826415Post Enrico_Misso »

The long range forecasts aren't very reliable.
But they are saying ...
15 degrees, showers and windy.

COLD WET & WINDY

That makes me very nervous.
Reduces the impact of Roo and Kosi.
But won't help Mooney, Hawkins either.

Will it hurt us more than them ?

Just far too early Enrico...wednesday night will be a better indication...the fact that it is wet and windy most of the week gives me hope...won't favour either side IMO...if it turns out that way both teams will have to deal with it but again...hold your fire...guess work at best

guys, i said it many times before, a long range forecast is an estimate. There is a high level of uncertainty in such range. Especially as to what will happen in a 3 hour block in the middle of a day.

Could also be just cloudy & dry.

Anyway, we play well just as well as they do in the wet. stop worrying about nothing.

Not sure either team will get an advantage. Won't help our forward line structure. Think it would help the cats small forwards be even more dangerous but then again it won't help the cats high possession / handball happy game.

Then again it might keep the game close and our superior fitness could get us over the line.

Either way just get out there and give em heaps!

Ok,it's still 6 days out,and models are all over the shop like a mad woman's sh1t usually in a 7 day forecast.

However,if it is correct, and we have one of those old fashioned artic blasts with HAIL, does this change selection? What if it's just purely raining all day?
It should...it's horses for courses, we need to be adaptable and ready.

Players that come into mind are Geary, played well in these conditions all year in the VFL.
Armitage- Hard body, long kick, has to come into consideration in a game of distances.
Dear I say it,Max? probably not.

I fear a wet slog. Bartel,Ablett,Selwood,Chapman.....they love it

Forecast here is horrible weather all week, so you guys usually follow. Thought about it, I agree that it doesn't really aid/inhibit either side much. Geelong's small forwards will relish it, but their backline will hate it, as they are subject to pressure and wet weather disposal will not help. On our side, our forward thrusts will suffer with the big guys taken out, but our backline will love it. Could be epic!

If wet will favor Cats for sure - Bartel, Sellwood love it wet and their potency in having a better spread of medium/smaller goal scorers (see Chapman, Johnson, Ablett if need) will be hard to stop.

Im praying for a 3hr El Nino.

It matters if your forward set up has half its goals kicked by a 6ft 4 blond CHF whose bread and butter is marking.......

Yeah it matters.

Yeah it matters.
Roo actually excels in the wet for mine.
Kosi is the one is seriously affects, he will lamost be rendered a witches hat.
It will help our shutdown gameplan and hurt their open high possession one for mine.

Cats play down at Skilled far more in the wet than we do - their smalls will come into their own.

Sure Riewoldt can play wet - but hes a high marking CHF/FF ....Im sure hes more dangerous when its fine....

Slows the game down, creates more contests, makes it harder for their zip and run handball happy punch through the middle game, should suit our pressure.

If there's wet weather - it could present an opportunity to ratchet up our tackle count back up to our year high 120 tackles.

And 8 goals may be the winning score ?

Some random weather variables:

Armo or Geary in?

Riewoldt good enough in all conditions.

Kosi becomes critical pack smasher. Step up Shneids, Mini and Milne all of whom will need to be at their absolute HARDEST.

Hayes, Jones, Dal, Ball vs Ablett, Selwood, Bartel etc. In wet I like our guys better. Midfield becomes congested which will surely suit us to a degree but they do have bigger midfield bodies?

Chapman will need a heavy, heavy tag.

Johnson loses some of his lustre.

Hawkins and Mooney become irrelevant.

Ottens becomes less relevant.

King becomes HUGELY relevant.

Wojinkski, Corey, Stokes become absolute passengers.

Rooke a danger.

The best tackling side has the advantage.

Certainly doesn't suit their high handball game.

Saints by 21 in bruiser.

"The inches we need are everywhere around us. They're in every break in the game. Every minute, every second. On this team we fight for that inch. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when we add up all those inches that's gonna make the f***in' difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying!'

I'm with you, mate.

If our boys really want to win, they will go out there giving it their all, no matter what the damn conditions are like.

Better get your dam condition up to scratch, as it's absolutely biblical here at the moment. Get the sandbags out.
