Ball to nominate for draft today according to The Age

ST KILDA'S refusal to trade Luke Ball during trade week means the club will lose him for nothing with the former captain today expected to nominate for the national draft.

As I said in the other thread, nothing had led me to believe he had changed on his postion to leave...

He wanted to leave 6 weeks ago, better he leaves if his heart is not in it. I wouldn't like to feel like he "settled" with the Saints anyway....

he was kind of pushed out. once the 3 x 300 deal was taken frmo the table and we got lovett and peake there was no way to squeeze him in. they probably offered him 200 this year and 300 next year. he can probably get 500 at melbourne x 3 years. thats a 1 mill difference.

either way gives armo a real crack now. time to step up armo. no excuses. no longer a developing player. i expect armo to play 50% game time for 16 games this season. same as LB.

Just opens the door for Armo....who has the knack of kicking goals, an ability that Ball no longer has.

If he feels there are greener pastures to persue in the draft, then by all means, let him. I don't begrudge him for doing it, if he doesn't want to be at the Saints, best he moves on, for his sake and for ours.

Now, can we please just focus on the 2010 campaign.

Well, unlike the rest of you, I'm sad to see him go.

As Lyon said, he was in our best 22. He isn't quite the player he was 3 years ago, and he is looking for less of a cut in his salary than the club was offering (how many of you would cop it quietly if you were offered a 40% cut in your salary?).

But he's a quality in-and-under player. They don't grow on trees. Letting him go is a gamble based on salary cap considerations. We probably can't replace him 100% but we couldn't afford the 400k or so pa he would have wanted to stay. I doubt that Lyon or the club management will be thinking anything remotely ATM like "good riddance to a distraction" or "you beauty, Armo can step up".

The whole Ball saga has not been a good one for the club. I'm not making any judgements: Ball himself and his management played a major part in the situation. But it's also a bad day for our club.

Jeer at Ball all you like, but keep it real....

It's all performance based. If I was performing at 40% less than my paycheque deserved, then I'd expect a paycut. And sadly, Ball wasn't playing at the level his remuneration warranted.

I'm somewhat sad to see him go (X as well) but that's footy, and apparently his own choice. As has been said Armo now has an opportunity to really cement a spot in the team; let's hope he takes it with both hands.

Hope you do well at your new club Bally but the club is bigger than any player. It sounds like there will be a few booing you now and it seems that you were never a better player or person than Judd or Hodge even though I could swear I read you were 6 months ago. Luckily a few on here seem to know exactly what happened between you and the club and also seem to know what you were offerred money wise or is it just the case that when it suits a discussion we just beleive what is written in the paper.

All the best Bally and like all Saints players that leave our club I hope you do really well just not against us.

no, he was feeling sorry for the Magpies players and thinking of how much they would have enjoyed playing in the GF

On the morning show it was said he was hoping to go to collingwood.
Had a couple of meetings with Malthouse and Buckley.
Ihope he gets to where he wants to go there are other clubs to pick before the pies.
We have now lost X, Goose and Ball wonder who is next. I don't think the club really wanted ball to go but he would not agree to their terms.
Time to move on and hope one of our kids will step up and take his place.

500k a year over the next two years, no wonder we could not afford him.
My honest opinion is i don't think he is worth that much

Just a quick question of process - what happens if we don't delist him?

Maybe not, but we had enough onballers to keep Ball off the field for much of this year. Losing him is hardly a tragedy. I'm disappointed he's chosen to go, but it does open up opportunities and cap space for the club. It doesn't have to be a negative.

Yeah nah pleasing positive

According to 'excuse #1' announced by his management, money wasn't the issue.

uncontracted players can nominate today _? does this mean that if they are NOT picked up they are still available to their existing club to re contract- ( although it would seem to be untenable)

next delisting date is Thursday/ Friday for next list lodgment

BUT Delisted players nominate for the Draft by next week-
Luke makes the choice- if he decides then he must by today- If not and he wishes the Club to make the choice- then later in the week is the next date of interest.......

he's gone brat....

His mind was made up awhile ago after the grand final most likely... Don't think it is a big loss... We didn't have much salary left and IMO it's because we only rated him 200k a year to the team, he may have been required but was not essential and i'm glad now geary, armo and steven can get their chance now....

I am so over this bloody soap opera. For gods sake, enough already, if you want to go theres the door now p1ss off. The club is ALWAYS bigger than the individual, especially those that believe they are much better than they really are. Now go and compare ego's with figjam
