Dawson is a major problem

Post: # 891338Post sainterinsydney »

I have to say that I feel Zac Dawson could be a major problem for us this year. I feel sorry for him, though, as it appears his illness during the pre-season has shed alot of bulk. It looks like we have a 1st year player at full back. Who can we replace him with?

Yeah he looks very underdone at present.

On the bright side he's not going to be playing against too many players as big as Barry through out the season.

I have never been sold on Zac, even when he was at his best last season so I really hope that Gaetner develops a lot quicker than we are all expecting.

I don't think he deserves to become the whipping boy, but it is definitely apparent that he looks terribly undersized. He was 10kg lighter than Bazza. Compare Zac to the size of Lake.

Letting Maguire go might come back to haunt us !

Letting Maguire go might come back to haunt us ! If DAWSON continues that form there is no way he can maintain his position - but we have no-one ready to replace him...and what if FISHER gets injured we will look very thin down back,

MAGUIRE would have been the obvious choice but now we have no one...

Yeah good point, the guy has been out of the game for ages so is as fresh as a daisy. Wont take long before he turns into the hack he was in his later days at sydney

We have next to no depth in the backline.

Who do we have of size to take on the stronger forwards? Perhaps Fisher if fit but are Gwilt or Clarke able to handle that pressure yet?

Does any one think that gwilt could play FB? Very impressive this preseason. Also got miles, who is bigger in size than zac.

Dawson has looked shaky all pre season so far lets face it but dont underestimate the loss of Fisher.

Our backline work like a machine - it did last year and Fisher is the General of that......we missed his drive and his ability tofloat across a lot of those Hall balls to help out.

Dawson has to know that if he doesnt have the bulk he cant wrestle.....he hasto play off a player the size of Hall.

I still think Hallis up and about early...but its March....

Dawson has always been a fair to good player

When our midfield is on his deficiencies are covered because the ball comes in slower and we have 2-3 on 1.

When our midfield is getting beaten he will have more 1 on 1's and he gets exposed for any deficiencies.

Losing Fisher early on meant Zac played more 1 on 1

.....which makes the decision to trade Maguire all the more surprising. If nothing else it would have been a solid depth player as we have virtually no backup key defenders.

I've liked how Gwilt is playing down back. Be interesting to see if he gets a game down there Rd 1.

He requested a trade though. Not much we could do there. I assume he would be regretting it also.

What about moving Kossie to full back? He was very good early in his career at CHB. I'm surprised that Lyon didn't even test it out.

A huge upside would be to get Jesse Smith on the park during the year

It could then release goddard / gram to the middle on a more permanent basis

stillnot sure Maguire was the answer at FB to be honest......from the times I saw him play there he wasnt great on the last line of defence at all.
