Official Saints Injury LIES for Round 2

Post: # 899022Post bergholt »

The official injury lies for Monday 29th March can be found here:

http://www.saints.com.au/injuries/tabid ... fault.aspx
Raphael Clarke - grade 1 hamstring, to be assessed
Robert Eddy - ankle arthroscope, to be assessed
Sam Fisher - ankle arthroscope, 3-5 weeks
Jesse Smith - ankle, to be assessed
Jack Steven - sprained mid foot, to be assessed

And here's why a supporter who takes what the club says in good faith will have a completely misleading picture of what's happening with the players they care about:

- Raph played well for Sandy on the weekend, as published in a major newspaper, so why are we still "assessing" his hamstring?

- Eddy was named emergency for the seniors and flew to Sydney with them, which seems reckless if we were still assessing his ankle.

- Dempster didn't play for Sandy but he's not named as injured so that means he's outside our best 30. Guess he'll be delisted at the end of the year.

- Winmar and Miles also didn't play for Sandy so that puts them right at the bottom of quality rankings for our senior listed players, with Leigh Fisher ahead of them. Unless one or both of them are injured.

- Rookies Simpkin, McGrath, Hutchings, Gaertner didn't play for Sandy so presumably they're all not good enough. Or maybe injured. Who knows?

What complete and utter crap from St Kilda. Why bother publishing an injury list if it's going to blatantly mislead those fans stupid enough to care about what's happening at the club?

There's no way that other clubs believe this for a second, so it's only fans who are misled. Why alienate us like that?

How up to date is that website?
It was a bit all over the shop last year in a few areas, not just injuries.

yeah, it's pretty poorly maintained. but regardless, someone went to the trouble of changing the date on the injury list to say "Monday 29th March 2010", so they had to think about it one way or the other.

I just hacked into Ross Lyon's computer and downloaded the official injury list. Don't share it with anyone.

Ross Lyon's computer wrote:The official injury list for Monday 29th March is
Raphael Clarke - grade 1 hamstring, two weeks
Robert Eddy - ankle arthroscope, two weeks
Sam Fisher - ankle arthroscope, two weeks
Jesse Smith - ankle, two weeks
Jack Steven - sprained mid foot, two weeks

God post, I'm sorry to say.

To a lesser extent, the same goes for the player stats -- height and weight. They never change from year to year.
Seems impossible.

That is great news on Sam Fisher, might be back for Round 4 :D

Very happy for the club to be vague on injurys.

Any club that accurately details it's players niggles would have to be stupid.

Apart from a general feeling of wanting to know, I totally agree.

This is high stakes professional sport. As Kate alluded to; why give your opponents any information you don't have to? We know Fisher will be out for a while and we know he'll come back.

Putting a number on the weeks involved means nothing.

Yup... and if anyone is getting in a lather primarily because of their supercoach or the like, they should give themselves an uppercut.

markp, don't get me started on that supercoach, dreamcoach, pretendycoach, selectawholelottanamesonawebsitecoach crap!

It may be amusing for those who are into that sort of stuff but it has no place in meaningfull discussions about who is selected, where they are played, how much game time they get etc.

Who really cares you don't know whether to pick Sam because you don't know when he'll be back. Or that you're pi..ed off because your cyber CHB is killing them in the VFL but they won't give him a game in the ones!

The reason some are worked up is because all the clubs know who is injured just not the supporters who buy memberships. I personnally dont care as i know the injuries but others do not and would like to know about players.

The Sam Fisher info of 3-5 weeks looks much closer to the truth than previous reports.

Raph Clarke's hamstring injury looks like it hasn't been updated since a couple of weeks ago: he played out the game for Sandy and there were no reports of him being injured. Likewise Eddy: he was named as an emergency last week and flown to Sydney, so it's hard to believe he's still injured. The whole world seems to know that Miles and Steven are out for a while, but they're not there at all. As for Dempster, goodness only knows what's going on with him.

I don't mind them being vague, but wnat's the point of leaving the likes of GOPs like Dempster and Miles off the list? Let alone Winmar. I don't think the Kangaroos are currently developing a strategy for countering Miles, Dempster and Winmar next Saturday.

I think it's more a case of "who gives a stuff?" rather than a cunning plan to confuse our opponents.

If we are better off giving no information, why give any information at all?

No one thinks it's 'cunning', it's obviously just their choice and part of a general philosophy to hold their cards as close to their chest as possible... and maybe you see this as the most petty aspect of that philosophy.

Also, maybe they do have to give some information, and this is as vague as they can be within the requirements?

We all know it's going on... and at least as long as we are at the right end of the ladder, I say we give them the benefit of the doubt.

Do you really think the club needs to let the supporters know the Raph is healthy and pushing for selection, I can only imagine

Sure, but a better learning curve for you would be to check out facebook when teams are named or Raph is mentioned...actually, even when he isn't mentioned.

They'll all be back in good time.....

It's who's out on the park that counts, they're the ones who'll win or lose the game for the club.....

Good time to get some games into players who aren't first 22....

Saints looking like a bottom 4 team in 2024.

he's one of those players who has as many people who support him as bag him. that's why the raph threads run to many pages.
