Cahill and Gaertner...Early Days but...
Cahill and Gaertner...early days still but both seem to have stepped up a bit as players so far this year when compared to where they were last season.
Now I am not talking about them for this year, but it is pleasing to me to note that both seem to have stepped up a bit this year. I think a few Sandy watchers were a bit disappointed with Cahil last year.
While most have been looking at Lynch, Cahill has come along nicely over Summer and may well end up being that third forward type that we are looking for. Seems to know how to kick a goal, and his build is perhaps a tad light even allowing for his age to be a FF. seems also to be more than just a mark and kick player.
Gaertner I was most impressed with in the NAB, and this weekend again played well according toa mate.
So it will be interesting to see how both go in the VFL this year.
I would be interested on the views of any that have watched them play this year.

Some see it as it is, others see it as they would like it to be.

Some supporters see players as they are and why. I dream of players that they could become and say why not?

One of "fun" things for me as a Saint's fan has always to watch the raw talent.ace wrote:

Used to love watching the Reserves and used to always arrive at games at 11am to do so.

Ah! Fond memories of the ressies.saintsRrising wrote:One of "fun" things for me as a Saint's fan has always to watch the raw talent.ace wrote:

Can remember Peter Everitt's first game as a skinny kid.
Also Shane Warne's ten minutes of fame in the last quarter of a ressies match.
One was also allowed out on the ground to hear the coaches address in the ressies too. The eloquence of a Wow Jones quarter time address: "Keep playing like that and you are going to lose". And that was all he said.

Nicky Winmar's one Reserves game (Disciplinary). Ripped a Brisbane side (with one W Capper at full forward) a new one without raising a sweat.

Gaetner is an exciting prospect, hopefully he will pushes himself this year to force himself onto the senior list by years end.
As for Cahill, he has a lot of raw talent but I'm not sold, I think he has a LOT to improve on and I am skeptical of his prospects to say the least.
He will never be a key forward IMO, he seems to be more of a Robert Murphy type player, if he could be anywhere near as good I'd be stoked, but that's who I think he needs to model his game off.

Yep praccy matches but we can only go by that so far. Decision won't be made to much later in the season, so he will have plenty of time to impress.plugger66 wrote:Yep praccy matches but we can only go by that so far. I think between injury and playing in Sandy twos, probably not more than about 4. Plus one NAB game this year. How many have you seen him in Plug?plugger66 wrote:Just a question. Wasn't impressed, but he didn't get much of a run.
Will keep an eye on him in the Sandy results on your recommendation.

This type of stuff really peeves me off.
Cahill got less than a quarter in that nab cup game....How anyone could possibly form an opinion based on a player coming on so late into the game, for less than 20 minutes really surprises me.
Makes me really question the observer really.
