Just lost his first game of senior AFL footy.

14 winning games from debut, was a pretty good effort. Didnt do too much tonight, unfortunately.

Not home and away, but lost in the NAB GF as well.

Didn't do much tonight, not sure about him, but no other options. Would he have got a game if King wasn't injured?

He is less effective than King I think. About the same around the ground, but less effective in the ruck and obviously not as experienced.

They are going to have to try and do something against Nic Nat next week, as well as ironing out a few other issues.

If McEvoy doesn't make it then who is next in line as a ruckman or do we have to find one in the compromised drafts of the future......

bearing in mind people are nominating Stanley as a forward....

I'd say Cox is more a threat than the occasionally flashy but still developing Nic Nat.

For sure. Nic Nat is overhyped for mine.
Cox is an elite ruckman.

Gardiner v Cox, actually a bit of master v apprentice :)

I am willing to be patient with Ben, with Kosi as a backup, not sure we can lose the game because he is in the side learning.

I havent seen much from Mcevoy to show why he is a first round pick, i havent seen him at Sandy though. I do know that ruckmen take more time to develop but im just saying what i see.

I'm with you there. He's not ahead of King as far as I am concerned.

King = Old and slow
Big Mac = Young and Clumsey

Big Mac can improve.

However I would have Gardiner in ruck. Kozi as back up ruck. Blake as fail safe (emergency). Therefore can utilise some more running players. Consistently King / Gardiner / Kozi have the lowest possession for the team and lowest effectiveness in the games.
If we have to carry a bigman, make it a young one.

WTF did he do today?

At least can take a mark, even with a bung shoulder. I don't see anything in McEvoy that tells me he'll make it. He was absolutely deplorable today

hahahaha ... could only get better from there ..... unfortunately his career has gone the same way as that kick for goal .... off course.

I cant see him as anything but a ruckman. He is big, clumsey, zero ball skills. Old fashion ruckman type.

I think young Stanley may be ahead of him as a Ruckman now.

I'd like to think that Big Ben would keep his spot for at least 3-4 weeks. That would give him time to pick up the pace of the game. He's a developing ruckman. He needs time in the senior side. Re-assess his spot in the side after 3-4 weeks !!

If yesterday's game showed us anything it was the importance of Ruckman who can play forward.

Ryder, Hille and Big Gardi showed us that.

If Macca is to take the next step then he needs to develop is marking and goal kicking skills

Given the lack of run/speed in our team right now we'd have to seriously consider giving Stanley a run in this Ruck/FF role.

For the all the discussion about Stanley's lack of experience and readiness for AFL, he is a pure athlete and potentially offers us more versatility than Macca currently does.

in the long term Macca will replace Gardi but right now we need him to help us kick goals more than just getting hitouts...

Yeah exactly.

They take up to six years... most time 8 to become dominant.

We have a fairly big gap (between Gard/King and Mac/Stan) and I was hoping something freakish from Mac!

What??

In which universe?

Stanley has played 0 AFL games, and just a handful of VFL senior games.

McEvoy certainly hasnt set the world alight in his 15 games but as a deveoping ruck he's been ok.

For the life of me I cant understand why everyone is advocating for Stanley to be our next massiah. Its a heap of pressure to put on the young bloke.

Sure hes been flashy and had a few exciting moments in the NAB cup, but bare in mind he could hardly get his hands on the ball.

Cox took at least 3-4 years at senior level before Gardiners injury at WCE meant that he had to take the #1 ruck mantle and prove he was a decent player. Before that he was nothing. Give Benny Mac his time to prove himself. Beanpole kids dont just turn into AFL quality ruckmen overnight.

Stanely would get bullied off the ground against most senior ruckmen.

Honestly you can say what u like about ruckmen taking longer to develop but in the end drafting ruckmen is guess work. The fact we wasted a first round draft pick on mcevoy will come to haunt us in future years. He is no better now in fact he may be a worse player than when he was drafted

Our ruck stocks are terrible once gardi goes down. Lets hope his tempromental body can hold up for all of our sake

Gotta agree with most of that.

I'm a little concerned about how Macca is playing at the moment.

However I have no concerns at all in regards to his future and his long term value to our club.
