CJ 14 tackles!

Post: # 928989Post saintspremiers »

Is that a record for one player in a game?

Amazing stat!

Must admit, it surprised me.

Good stuff CJ, although Priddis had 34 touches, but then again 29 of those were by hand.

Priddis 34 possessions.

Heard on the radio he had only 5 kicks....But he cant kick anyway....

Is this an effective game from Jones in peoples opinions?

No I think CJ is in a real flat spot. Needs to go back to stopping instead of trying to get it. Doesnt use it well enough to actually need to get it anyway.

Would Priddis have had 48 disposals if CJ hadn't stopped him 14 times with a tackle?

You'd have to say that if CJ was tagging Priddis all day and he wound up with 34 possessions then Priddis clearly won the day.

I think Jones has had a really ordinary month

Beaten in every one of the last 4 games

Our tackling has still allowed opposition to handball to a team mate on most occasions this year.

One thing that has been getting to me all year!

I know its not accurate, but Jones could well have tackled Priddis 14 times with Priddis disposing it by hand 14 times.....

Or are those tackles not counted?

Tend to agree, although I do feel he is one that is more effective than he looks. He gets off some dinky little possessions in traffic to team mates in space.

I think when people start talking dinky that actually means they are pretty poor with disposal. Never hear Lenny, Dal or BJ being mentioned in the same breath as dinky.

Priddis' touches are rarely worth their value. Especially 29 handballs. No doubt he got it far too often, but you'd rather Priddis get 34 touches...than say a Judd, Goodes or Lenny Hayes who would completely annihilate the opposition with 34 touches. Which Lenny showed true today.

I actually think Jones looking to giving it off because he 'has bad disposal' impacts more negatively on his game.

I would rather him when he gets it, to be confident enough rather than second guess and just try and offload it.

Yeah maybe, but when I say dinky, I mean he is trying to create, getting in the way, stops the flow against and moves the ball the right way.

You are comparing CJ to 3 of our top 5 players to be fair.

Agreed. He's so intent on finding a handball to avoid kicking it that he hangs onto the ball too long and ultimately chooses the wrong option. I'd rather he backed himself with the kick than turn it over looking for a short handball.

I thought Jones was dynamite this afternoon! Just superb!

When they created LENNY HAYES (in the shadow of Harvs) they forgot to break the mold (again)- hence the Supremely Incredible Jack Steven!!

Priddis is a turn over merchant. I don't think he influenced the game at all

Another opportunity awaits!

I didn't think Priddis had any impact after the first quarter.

I have to agree, I don't think his (Priddis') possessions were too damaging.

Granted, but if you're tagging a guy he shouldn't have 34 possessions. Fortunately they weren't damaging, but that's beside the point.

Who did you all think were West Coast's best?

McKinley, and A. Selwood were the only two I really noticed, although Hurn did a few good things.

Jared Brennan has 16 tackles against Essendon last year. I think that'd the best tackle count in recent memory.

Jimmy Bartel had 16 in last year's Grand Final, many of them tackling Lenny after he was sent to follow Len at quarter-time.

Sorry, I have a mental block on that game. It's too painful to remember.

So many tackles because his opponent was first to the ball.
