Coach Tony Elshaug walks out on Saints

Hmmm, wasn't opposition news after all.

Not sure the club needed any more bad news, but at least it is round 11 and not just before our finals campaign (like Brad Scott last year)

So to the poster who gave us a clue, curious who you are 'on the ball' or is more a case of who you know? 8-)

So they're saying Royal will now step up?

Would love to have an ex coach at the club

Laidley, Frawley and even Roos when he leaves next year

Left for personal reasons?

Or just politely sacked.

Sorry but what's the point of trying to dig up dirt ... do we really need more controversy??

The club has said he has resigned for personal reasons so lets leave it at that

How about a ... thanks Tony for your dedication and hard work and best of luck for the future .. cheers!!

I don't know any of the details, but I wish him well in the future.

it says personal reasons and that is as plausable as anything. family, stress, etc. good luck to the guy. he's done an excellent job if you give him a share of the credit for the midfield's performance in the past two years.

at least we have a capable replacement in royal.

I have it on good authority that Elshaugh was upset at people talking through his interview in the Victory Room after the Adelaide match.

Sounds from the article that he has significant problems at home - whether this is with family/stress/ relationship etc. May have even had some type of breakdown the way it is worded. We will probably never know and none of our business to be honest. Let's hope he is able to deal with whatever it is - at the end of the day - health and family come first.
We thank him for his efforts and wish him all the best.

From a club point of view, I agree that Royal will be more than capable of stepping up. He has been an assistant before and has been in the running for many senior jobs. Wasn't he in the final few when Ross won the job??
I was a bit surprised when Royal was appointed development coach as it seemed a step down from the assistant jobs he had done before. Where was he before - was it Richmond ? Maybe he was happy to be in the system at such a great club  I'm sure he will step up and do well in the assistant role. We need to find a new development coach though as this is also a crucial role. With the extra days this week and the professionalism of our club these days, I've got no doubt that they will have the midfield role well covered. Royal will step up. Ross himself was also previously a midfield coach, and we have great leaders in that area of the ground who will also have input.

You implying Ball and Tony had issues, or you think Ball should be our midfield coach?

Apparently the last straw for Tony was when everyone talked over him when he was at the Victory Room after the Adelaide win.

Lance or James??

There comes a point in every man's life when he has to say, "Enough is enough." For me, that time is now. I have been dealing with claims that I cheated and had an unfair advantage in <redacted>. Over the past three years, I have been subjected to a <redacted>investigation followed by <redacted> witch hunt. The toll this has taken on my family, and my work for <redacted>and on me leads me to where I am today – finished with this nonsense. (Oops just got a spontaneous errection <unredacted>)

Watching Dal addressing the players during one of the breaks a few weeks ago, think they could almost coach themselves.

Agree, good luck to the guy, hope his 'personal issues' aren't too grave.

Obviously a huge loss for the club. Who would know how much imput he has but considering his experience you would think it is quite a lot. Will not be easily replaced even with Brian Royals experience. At least it happened mid year instead of later in the year.

Personally I hope everything is OK.

Honestly Ross the Boss and the players deserve a farking knighthood.

The amount of stuff that has gone on behind the scenes at the Saints in the last 8 months is ridiculous. Most clubs would fold.

We keep winning games of football.

Elshaugh will be a loss, very experienced hand in the box and during the week ... he's a mate of Lyon's, so it's definitely personal reasons why he is leaving. Sad to see him go, and thanks for his contribution.

Maybe a month off and he might re-join us for the finals.

Definitely be looking for a couple of new assistants in the off-season.

Welcome back Harves :P
