'Not sure anyone thinks we can beat them, bar ourselves'

Post: # 945710Post SainterK »

And me :)

Friday night's grand final re-match at the MCG will attract a massive crowd and it will be a major challenge for the Saints. Geelong remains the top side but St Kilda has been impressive, holding second spot despite Nick Riewoldt's ongoing absence.

"We're 9-3, but we haven't been as convincing, there's no doubt about that," Lyon said.

"Everyone sees Geelong as the benchmark team, the premiership team and we're all still chasing them.

"Last year, there was a view we may (have) caught up, but I don't think anyone thinks that now.

"Everyone thinks we're going to have a really red-hot go and compete, but I'm not sure anyone thinks we can beat them, bar ourselves.

"Everyone was tipping they might slide, they've really put a sign up saying 'we're here and we're here to stay for a while' - it's still the biggest challenge in football."

I don't care if we win or lose to be honest. I want a good display and kind of feel we will learn more if we lose. But ...what do I know. :?:

It's another four points. I won't be satisfied until we've secured a top two position, so I'm definitely going to be wanting to win!

I also don't subscribe to this theory that if you lose to a team in the season, you're for some reason more likely to beat them in the finals.

I am not so concerned about winning, as I am about a consistent 4 quarter effort...if we play hard and tough, don't take a backwards step and lose by under 3 goals, I will accept that....

Having said all that, I think we can win, and I damn sure hope we do!

Its all in the process. :P

If we do all the small things, the win takes care of itself.

It is about, to a man, doing your role.

My dream night -
S. Milne kicks five, including the sealer.
J Koschitzke marks strongly, terrorises Cats back-line, kicks four.
G Ablett and P Chapman BOTH pinged for holding the ball on multiple occasions.
A Schneider held by the jumper and paid a free in goalsquare.
Podsiadly kicks what looks like a dubious goal, but the goal umpire signals
a point, saying "No No No, I clearly saw it graze the goalpost, after all that's what I'm paid for".
Dal Santo 35 touches, incl 6 goal assists - C Ling 7 touches.
M Gardiner takes mark of the year over C Mooney.
That's about it.

i think at this very moment, we are going to have to play well above our 2010 standard to get close to them.

they are looking strong all over the park, where as we beat teams this year generally off one or two good solid quarters

Top 4 possie with a fully fit squad is what I want this year (edit: after round 22!). Last year showed us that it means nothing to win a match vs Geelong mid year.

With Podsiadly and Chapman anchoring mydream team's forward line, I'd like us to win, but for them to still rack up the points. And 40 touches for Goddard, who's my draem team captain.

many things I liked about Ross's press conferance today
his Joy at seeing Nick on the track
his fear at seeing Nick on Track- ( how many of us will be holding our breath when he takes those first big strides in competition)
his recognition of TEAM
his love of his ' boys'
his comfort in his process
his awareness of the Club and Supporters
his ability to subtly say- Ok we know no one believes in us... But we're here and now ready to give it a shot- and we're closer than others.

even had the media asking how he was :)

They're better than they were last year, but so are we.
We're managing to win without the best player in the AFL.

The group will be stronger with all the goings on this week. We'll win.

They did believe they could win, especially evident in the first minutes after half time...I love that!
