Alastair "The Dribbler" Smith

Post: # 952675Post kosifantutti23 »

aker has been on radio this morning and referred to his opponent yesterday as "some dribbler" with no skills.

The guys on SEN said Aker should STFU.

A guy with a name like Alastair Smith really needs a nickname. Does he have one? The Dribbler sounds like it could be a baby, a basketballer or a superhero.

Next year Alastair Smith will be playing AFL, Aker will be desperately trying to get a job in the media but he'll probably find out that having a big mouth only gets you so far.

That assumes that something exists beyond Aker's ear.

I'm pretty sure there's nothing but a horrible black void...

Heavily tagged, the Brownlow medallist managed just five kicks, nine handballs and four marks in his first game in a month after a hamstring injury.

>>>>>>>>>>
Akermanis won't soon forget the face of St Kilda-listed player Alistair Smith -- 14 years his junior -- who did a brilliant job on the champion.

Akermanis was guilty in the first half of trying too hard to have an impact.

It showed in the second quarter when he dropped a simple uncontested mark -- to the delight of a few hecklers in the 1000-strong crowd.
Akers personal battle - how to get 'personal' out of a "team" game
"It was good because it freed up one of the other boys.

"You want to get many, many touches and get your confidence up but, in the end, the team won so what more can you ask for?"

He would benefit from having to work harder for his kicks.

"It's been five weeks so I'm feeling very rusty," Akermanis said. "It was a hard day at the office on a personal level, but terrific from a team perspective, even at this level.

I think Aka means Dribbler as a term for a young bloke. Often used in footy circles to describe a rookie coming up through the ranks. Someone who is young and green.

Although admittedly on radio he could've probably used a better word.

But then Aka is Aka.

Ah, so he was soundly beaten by someone who "can't play"...

It's over, Aker.

No. He definitely said it to insult. He said "he can't even kick, and he did nothing for his side, that is why they got smashed by ten goals".

Complete lack of respect from a guy in the death throes of his career.

14 disposals from a hack playing on a dribbler who says he is in the top 5 Bulldogs players.

Bye bye Acker

Sounds like sour grapes to me, he didnt have the impact he wanted and has lashed out.
Then again the link between Aker's mouth and brain has never been proven... or for that fact that he even engages his brain all that much. Sounds like another of his look at me tactics and he got what he wanted.

Also probably trying to deflect attention from the fact it sounds like his direct opponent accounted for him nicely

Aker's own teammates hate him because he is the most self centered little turd going around. He got dumped from Brissy because his team mates all hated him, what's the common denominator in those two statements Aker?

Smith did a good job in the NAB and looks a player, once he bulks up a bit expect him to play as a possible tagger and free CJ to play more of a midfield role.

I thought Alistair Smith did a really good job on Aka....and he did get a few kicks himself...in a day of rare Sandy highlights, Smith beating a triple premiership/Brownlow medallist was a real positive...

Tom Lynch has played well the last 2 weeks...his game last week against Geelong was his best game for Sandy....I was having some doubts about him a few weeks ago but he is starting to impose himself on a game now

Tommy Walsh continues to impress....after a couple of average weeks he's hit back...his marking under pressure is great and he's becoming more vocal now that he's getting the hang of the game...

In 3 weeks time Sandy travel to the Gold Coast so maybe we'll see Tommy Walsh up against Karmichael Hunt...Tommy Walsh is so far in front of Hunt in terms of ability and fitness...

zebraman, how are the results staking up with what the sandy people thought before the season started. I know there are alot of new players after sandy lost some of their regulars. What do we need to do as a team to improve our results?

Williamstown came in with 16 Western Bulldogs (Sandringham had 11 St Kilda players) listed players and more than 800 games of AFL experience with Akermanis, Eagleton, Everitt, Roughead, Hill and Williams among the names and that proved to be the difference as they blew the seniors away by 58 points. The Zebras were always chasing the Segulls after coughing up the four goals of the game and with competition leading goal kicker Matt Little slotting 7 it was always going to be tough.

Although it turned into a belting there were some positives - Alistar Smith did a fantastic job on Western Bulldog star Jason Akermanis who managed just five kicks, nine handballs and four marks in the match. Sam O’Sullivan made an impact on debut as he collected 10 possesions and Nick Sautner kicked 5 majors which takes his tally to 9 in the past two weeks, after a form slump mid season it looks as if “Sautsâ€

So, how many runs does a guy need on the board before he's allowed to have a go at his VFL tagger? Given the source, has anyone ever heard Aker say something good about the innumerable opponents he's had over the years?

I think it's great that Smith got the chance to run around with a guy of Aker's accomplishment to see how he approaches the game. Sure, he isn't 100% of 2010 capability, let alone career form. Still, it's kind of opportunity eventually led to guys like Boyd, Sewell and Kirk being elite/borderline elite mids, and not something available week-to-week in the V.

We can only hope Alistair Smith reaches the level some of the other taggers & defenders that Aker has failed to admire over time.

Good point...the main problem I see is that the St Kilda listed players that are playing with Sandy don't train with Sandy...even if it was for one session per week I'm sure that would be beneficial to both sets of players so they can get to work out each others strengths/weaknesses...

I guess inexperience is also an issue..Sandy have a lot of new younger players and the Saints have a lot of young draftees/rookies....put that up against the experience that Williamstown had yesterday in terms of senior games played at AFL level and we were always going to struggle....

Where that may not help Williamstown is in the finals as you have to play a certain amount of games wih the VFL team to be eligible....Akermanis and Eagleton won't be available and Eagleton in particular would be an asset to any side

Sandy were lucky we had Steven King playing...he played a lone hand in the ruck

Tagger with just two less stats than the tagged and tackles to boot.

Sledge fails, Aker.

You're a goose.
