Time to Upgrade Tom SIMPKIN

Post: # 967437Post WinnersOnly »

With the finals drawing closer and our lack of depth in our key defenisive posts we need a player ready to go. Raph CLARKE is now on the Long Term injury list hence we wil have a posi sitting idle. Surely the club will upgrade Tom SIMPKIN to have him available or even play him before the finals.

From all reports he is a hard nut good overhead and at ground level. He has been the most consistent Saints listed player at Sandringham and shows plenty of grunt. Time to make the decision SAINTS...

Its fine to upgrade a player if you intend to put him in the senior side, otherwise its a waste of time & money. Don't upgrade just for the sake of upgrading !!

He is a good insurance policy to up grade him.But it is a big ask to play in the finals for your first game.
So if they do upgrade him he should play a couple of games before the finals. But it wont be this week as i dont think there will be more than 2 changes with CJ coming in and maybe Geary out as well with dribbler in.

So when do you play him and for who we carnt tinker with the team to much.

I have heard he is in the Gilbert mould in the way he can mark over-head and his build.

Gilbert is 194cm and Simpkin 191cm - according to saints.com.au which might not have been updated since he was first drafted and therefore it is likely to be a little inaccurate given someone of his age (DOB 1990) can still be growing.

The reports this week in particular said Simpkin's overheard contested marking was exceptional in the difficult conditions.

Don't know what his disposal by foot is like... hopefully not in the Gilbert mould.

He played well last season apparently, so he has been consistent for quite some time. We could do worse than give him a run in the Seniors in the next couple of weeks.

Hasnt grown at all. That would be generous with height. Great Kick on both sides of his body. Angry man but just a little lazy. I think he has it but not this year.

A few years old, but encouraging nonetheless, especially the marking and running...

is currently the best reader of the play in our reserve backman. Good set of hands but his decision making is not always perfect (lazy). Should be on the senior list at the expense of wil johnson.

Comes across as a nice decent kid. Had the pleasure of chatting with him at one of the functions earlier in the year. Deceptively tall, I'm 188cm and he was taller than me.

Would love to see him given a go, if he's training hard, getting named in the best at Sandy and there's a position available...why not?

Would like to see him on Ebert, if only because it would look like the Easter Islands!

So is Ralph Clarke on the long term injury list?

I haven't seen anything except the OP to indicate that he is.

Had surgery on a hamstring I believe early this week.

...but anyway it doesn't matter as we have a free spot for a rookie elevation, if we choose to use it.
