Who plays on Leigh Brown

Post: # 993217Post FQF »

This has been the question that's been bothering me all day.

When Brown plays in the forward line, he is a decent goal kicking prospect, and I'm not sure we have the personnel to cover Brown Cloke and Dawes all at the same time.

Fisher played on his in round 16 and got pretty badly towelled up (3 goals), and his form has improved since then.

With Blake and Dawson on Dawes and Cloke... who takes Brown?

I dont think Blake will get Cloke. I think Fisher will and Blake will get Brown. Thats how i see it anyway. And if for some reason they only have 2 forwards up there we will then try and free up Chips.

Do you think Fisher is good enough one-on-one to cover Cloke roaming around the ground?

We also lose a lot of decent rebound.

More importantly, is Blake good enough to play on Brown?

I guess a lot will rely on Goddard and Gilbert getting back.

Zac- Dawes
Blake- Cloke
Gwilt- Brown

Fisher & Gilbert to do what they like.

Surely Dawson will play on the resting ruckman?

Blake to CLoke
Gwilt to Dawes (I see this as similar to Gwilt on Pods in the Geelong game.)

Fisher and Gilbert to take the 2 taller small forwards
Baker/Dempster/Geary (whoever plays) to take the shortest small forward.

Gwilt is 188cm to Brown's 194 cm.

That is a lot of height to give away.

I think Magic is right, because it also covers the possibility of Jolly going forward (which he does) since Zac is quite tall.

The definite advantage we have is when Brown is in the ruck against Mcevoy.

Surely Zac will play on the deepest forward and surely that will be dawes. We dont want Zac up the ground. He is our deep backman.

Don't Brown and Jolly play deep when they play forward?

What happened on Saturday night when Hall ran forward?
Did Zac go with him or did the defenders rotate around that?

Probably Dawes.

Seems like a poor man's Hall, so we should be alright there.

Can't remember, but who played on Dawes in Rd 16? Seem to recall that they did a pretty good job, even in the absence of Cloke, he was quiet

I was watching Hall that much but it looked to me he played deep all night. Didnt really get up the ground at all. You are right though in that if Brown plays deep he will play on him.

It was Zac.

And Dawes said in an interview before that game that he was very confident on beating Zac because he is much stronger.

It seems to fit Ross' structure - Zac is our 'tall defender'
Brown/Jolly are their tall forwards.

WHat will be really interesting is if Kosi gets going early and Presti isn't in the team.
Brown would seemingly be their only other option to go on to Kosi, which kind of stuffs up their forward structure.

I would assume that they have the same problem with Gardiner and Mcevoy.

True about Kosi... he can really throw teams into disarray.

They could try Maxwell on him... but that really screws up the structure.

I thought Harry O'Brien was the only 'deep' backman.

At least he seems to think so.

On this team we tear ourselves and everyone around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when we add up all those inches that's gonna make the f***in' difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying!'

Great post Magic. I reckon this will happen too - N Brown and Reid aren't gun backs at all.

Zac should take Dawes. Bale on cloke ruck resting worward is interesting, maybe fisher and run off him

We can't risk running off a resting forward.

I think the three forwards will be manned up by Dawson Blake and Gwilt.

Not sure who on who though.

Best to leave Fisher Gilbert and Dempster on the smaller forwards with the ability to run (for Chips and Gilbert).

Goddard spare man.

Fisher was our best against collingwood (5 votes from saintsational leaderboard) and took like 17 marks pretty much made the result not look worse. I reckon fisher will play on the forward who pushes up the ground the most.
