Could Stanley be the ultimate x-factor???

Post: # 1003307Post kaos theory »

RL is toying with the idea of bringing in Stanley instead of big ben.

The positives:
Pace to burn, can ruck, take a mark. He could run Jolly off his feet. Swapping with Koise and Blake adds a real unknown to worry the pies.

negatives:
Lacks hardness & expereince. How would he cope withthe big day?

While Mcenvoy is more experience, better mark (atm) and better ruck, he is not mobile enough to go with Jolly...He will get better over the yrs, with more expereince and fitness, but I'm a little concerned about how we will perform....

interesting choice....

Will not happen IMO of course unless he really thinks Kosi cannot play forward anymore.

He was in for structural reasons during the year. He obviously could not keep up with the tempo and physicality of AFL and would be a complete and utter liability in a grand final.

Don't get me wrong; he looks like he'll be a gun in 3 or 4 years, but you don't play a lanky, underdeveloped ruck/forward with about 6 AFL games to his name and win a premiership.

yes, he is quick.

howeve he is raw, he kick something like 2 goals in seven games. didn't do alot. i can't imagine how much that would change this week. yes he will be good in the future, but i'm not sure now.

Yes in 2011 I think he will help us win the flag.

The two back to back GF sprint winners in Stanley and Miles will both cut up the G in the GF next year in a new look pacier Saints Team.

Sorry KT but McEvoy is more than mobile enough to go with Jolly. I'm not saying he will beat Jolly but keeping up with him wont be the problem.

He has done very little (just to put it mildly)...

In fact IMO he has done flower all to deserve a spot in the GF rematch...

I say NO WAY!!!!

Yes, he is a prospect, but he has shown very little in his 7 games this year....

I just loved Jack Steven's game against Geelong, were he popped up and kicked 3 goals and I hope he is considered as well as Big Mac

i'd rather Steven come then Stanley.

Stanely just has not done enough in the 7 games he has played

Agree. Kosi out of Roos way & more defensive AND attacking ability from spills in the forward line.

Someone said a few days ago that if we pick Stanley we're in trouble.

No offence to the old guy, but if we select Kingy we're on death row in an Indonesian prison!

I think Ross was just trying to not tell the pies straight away it McEVOY for Gardiner.
He also mentioned Stevens, Armitage and Geary.
He made them all sound like stars
He wants to keep them guessing as long as possible

I don't necessarily rule it out.

On Saturday we ended up robbing Peter to pay Paul. This is to say that Eddie was totally ineffectual in drawing Maxwell away from his position, IMO, this was his main role in the game along with forward pressure. The end result was Gilbert was thrown forward so that Maxwell was made to be accountable.

This week will be different, The pies will bring in goldsack for leon, Goldsack to play a negating role on Fisher. This effectively means that we will need Gilbert down back hence releasing Maxwell. If stanley was to come in for Eddie the Pies suddenly have a big problem as a big target cannot be left alone.

Don't forget that the Pies have planned for Kosi to play forward and their structure was stuffed completely once we had a mobile big man, no offence to Gardi, and not saying Kosi is hugely mobile. What I took out of Saturday was that Jolly had no answer to Kosi. Kosi placed his body in positions that Jolly did not like and in the end Jolly resorted to trying to protect space rather than go for the ball. A Kosi/Blake combination could work again. The choice would be either to have Ben or Stanley as the other tall forward target.

Hate to be a selector!

Rhys will be good in the future - But Ross will not roll the dice with him this week. It's not as if he was carving it up in the games he played in the H & A

at this stage ben is by far the smarter player and he kicks goals. stanley looks a good prospect down the track, but, going on his games this season, hasn't justified selection in the grand final.

but ross knows best.

stanley is not the answer.....

big mac should be pretty angry if he gets the nod over him

guy did nothing but straighten our structure when roo was out

may be a gun in future but to put him into a grandfinal???

I'd think Geary, Steven and Armo would all be considered before Stanley...
