season over?

Post: # 1057327Post desertsaint »

we must beat essendon this week.
if not and we don't turn around our form on resumption from the bye it'll be all over for the year.
we have a very hard first half season. lose this week and we could well turn at 2-1-8.

here's the worst case scenario:
bombers (L),
bye,
lions (W),
crows (L - second interstate in a row),
blues (L - back from two weeks away),
hawks (L - 50/50 game),
dees (W),
freo (L - away game),
pies (L - returning from perth),
dogs (L - 50/50 game)

s***!
then we play geelong.

very, very hard. we needed to hit this season in top form to get through the first half in a decent position. gets a lot easier after geelong - but we may be to far off the pace.

I partially agree. We do have a bye in round 4.

I don't know how it looks for other teams, but this is certainly a tough "first half" draw for the Saints.

Let's just win the Essendon game, have our bye and take things a week at a time from there. An Essendon win this week is very important.

You're a bit glass half empty desertsaint, how come we automatically lose all the 50/50's? I guess this is worst case scenario, yes?

I agree, our draw is a long way off Collingwood's.

it is a pessimistic post given the worst case scenario - but it's a very possible worst case.
my main point was that given our draw we needed to be up and firing from the get go.
each result is quite feasible. all together is far less so. but unless we wake up it could well happen. we need to win this week.
one positive is we'll come home fast in tne second half of the season - but we dont want to be too far off the pace to make top four.

Why is the Blues a loss because we are returning from a bye?

Apart from the Pies, Lions and GC, all games are nearly 50/50...

I wouldn't be penciling in any wins either in the second half.

play blues after traveling to brisbane then adelaide - poorly worded by me.
i agree other games are 50/50 - if we play at least as well as last year (lost to crows and blues last year, drew with hawks. freo away a hard task, dogs and bombers very hard). if we don't improve those games are no longer 50/50.

The bqlues would be a loss....because signs so far suggest, they are a shitload beter.....maybe look at last year for a form guide against the blues...

I think on current form that is a fair prediction....hopefully for is fleeting, but gee....we cant beat a riewoldtless richmond....thats a worry....

So you obviously rate the Tigers highly because they just got over them. Dont even count GC at this stage.

So plugger going on your dumbarse or smartarse theory...cant work out whixh one???

Carlton disposed of richmond by 20 points or so....with 10 more scoring shots......riewoldt kicked 6

We drew with richmond....riewoldt missed 90% of the game...

Are you trying to support or ague my point...

Because my calculations say.....on form carlton do look a touch better???

but losing their best player may have helped them draw.

the other players all lifted about 10 to 20%, more than making up for the loss of Jack.

The draw means nothing, if we can't make the finals with this draw then we don't derserve to be there anyway and I only want to be there if we are a genuine chance to actually win the flag and not just making up the numbers! So stop whinging and as Ross said harden the f*ck up!

Using your dumbarse/smartarse theory, we are going pretty well. The Blues, who are absolutely unbeatable 2 games in, fell over the line against Richmond (who, with their star studded defense, held Carlton goaless for the 3rd quarter), who we salvaged a draw against, after spraying 30 scoring shots all over the ground!

If we are working week by week we may as well finish the year when everyone plays each other. The only problem with that is it doesnt work. I thought you would fall for that answer. I suppose that just proves what I thought.

I don't care what happens aslong as we finish top 8 after the entire season. I don't believe the whole only top 4 have a chance deal. You just have to be in it to win it and our boys can beat any team on their day, maybe those days are in September this year... and October....sigh

You may not believe the top 4 thing but facts are facts. Sides out of the top 4 are even struggling now to make the prelimary final. If we want to contend we must finish top 4 which means probably 14-15 wins.

Can see your point.

And in terms of accusations of pessimism, just as well you didn't start this three weeks earlier with a prediction of a loss to Geelong and a draw with Richmond in addition to all the rest!

How long since we lost a season opener? At least we haven't peaked early, but it sucks big-time losing Lenny!
