This weeks Reserve grade game has been moved to Oakleigh Reserve on Saturday 16 April commencing at 10.30am. The Senior game will remain at Trevor Barker Beach Oval @ 2pm on Sunday 17 April.

Just on that though, the selection of Peake, Raph & Gamble goes directly against what Greg Hutchinson said were VFL rules.

Under VFL rules, the Saints can't send struggling players back to regain form with affiliate Sandringham on Sunday. But they could play key forward Justin Koschitzke as he has yet to start his season after an ankle injury.

"We'll get through training tomorrow and get together to decide which guys need to play in the VFL and which ones are eligible to play.

"Those who played AFL last week are not permitted to play this week in the VFL during the bye week," Hutchison said.

"It's like the week before (the start of the season), unless they've been injured or missed a significant part of the pre-season."

Can anyone explain that knows the actual rules and stuff?

I think the VFL rules on this are a bit "rubbery". I think we can make a case for all three that they can get the VFL to swallow;

Raph: Missed 2/3 of last year and some of the pre-season. Needs the run

Peaky: Been the sub in two out of 3 games and hasn't played much footy

Gamble: Was a VFL standard player last year and is a guy who would be in & out of the senior side anyway

yeah, that's how it sounds. but vice versa you could still be promoted from the reserves even if you played - unlikely though given the short break.

so an accurate reading might be:

i tend to agree. but the fact remains that he was the one emergency last week who didn't play in the vfl, and he's not named in the vfl at all this week. so if he doesn't play in the afl next week then he will have had three weeks without a footy game. sounds unlikely - so surely there's some plan for him. but buggered if i can see how it all fits together.

maybe we're looking for a proper tall forward line. all of mcevoy, stanley, kosi changing tall forward-ruck, with two of them playing tall forward at any one time along with riewoldt and milne. interesting for opposition matchups.

or maybe they'll go for more of a mid-size and bring in johnson for stanley. third debutant in three rounds. or maybe four if winmar plays in peake's "specialist sub" spot. (which puts him on a hiding to nothing.)

most likely though is the three changes you mentioned, because they're conservative and we know that's rossy's preference.
