TWO-TIME All Australian defender Brian Lake will play in the VFL this weekend for the first time since 2003 in a bid to recapture form and fitness.

Coach Rodney Eade suggested the 29-year-old could benefit from a spell for Williamstown earlier this week owing to his limited pre-season and disappointing performance against Collingwood.

On Wednesday, assistant coach Brett Montgomery said the decision had been made in conjunction with Lake. He will miss the Dogs' round seven clash with the Sydney Swans at Manuka Oval in Canberra in favour of a run with the Seagulls.

"It's not speculation. Brian will go back to the VFL for form and fitness," he said at Whitten Oval.

Apparently Williamstown (Burbank Oval) is having a major upgrade to their facilities and will be out of action until sometime next year, they are hoping it will be finished in time for the 2012 season.
Would explain the lack of games there.....

I think the confusion is the name of the ground..how long has it been called "Avalon Airport Oval"?? Silly me but I thought it might be out near Avalon Airport somewhere not in the middle of Werribee

What on earth does Lindsay Fox have to gain by buying the naming rights to the oval anyway? You dont choose to use Avalon, you do so cos its only place your flight leaves from

Yep, doing ok in ruck work, not much around the ground. Like the look of Ferguson, super quick and tall, has a real go. Walsh and lynch have both been great. Dean Polo brought us back into the game in the second quarter
