Very disappointing but as the article says it will give him time to bulk up.

Also means an extra spot for a Ledger/Winmar/Heyne and we won't have to demote a player if Gardi ever comes back from the LTI

Oh how ordinary, never mind what he brings to the footy team, that is such a significant setback for him personally.

He should be very proud of the endeavour and effort he has shown, no need to rush him back, I can honestly say he is too important.

In the scheme of things this might not be so bad. After seeing him in person playing for Sandy I thought there was no way his body could stand up to the physical pressure of AFL footy, and this means he's had a taste and can now spend the next 6 months in the gym, hopefully adding 5-6kgs and building some serious core strength. It will also allow him to have a more steady, controlled regime which would help him with learning how to regularly manage his diabetes.

It would have been good to see him play another 6-8 games this season, but I think in a couple of years time he'll be a better player for this injury.

Terrible news for Jamie. But he's already shown a bit of promise, and it will give him some extra time to bulk up, and get right for next year!!

The other benefit is that it does open up a spot for another youngster (maybe Ledger) to play that super sub/small forward role!

agree with what has mostly been said,

strange injury to not only be sidelined for the year but also need to go under the knife. Can we ever get a gun midfielder draftee who is not struck down by injury?

Hopefully he is on a good program and adds strength to his core

Didn't goose get compartment syndrome and spent 3 years off the field? Not to mention surgery after surgery.

Not necessarily a bad thing!

Cripps has had a taste of Footy, and knows he can make it.

In the 9 months between now and the NAB Cup, he, and the club, can learn the best way to put weight on, and manage his diabetes.

His out also provides more opportunity. Heyne, Ledger, Crocker and Smith could all get more of a run at senior footy, while if the club chooses to put him on LTI, Fergo, Curren or Andreoli could get a run too.

He broke his leg. That led to complications, mainly from infections. I can't recall if CS followed, but leg trauma is a cause.

Absolutely shattering news, one of the few highlights of our season to date.

Not sure you can have 3 on the LTI list, but this makes sense for the Tommy Walsh elevation though. Gardiner will come off in next few weeks and Cripps onto the list and both Archer & Walsh can stay up for the year.

According to the his profile on Saints site he is listed as 73kg. Thats 2kg down on when he was drafted so this gives him good chance to get up bit more weight onto him

I think the club is doing the right thing by getting him in and getting it fixed NOW. Lets hope that he can have an extended pre-season and is jumping out of his skin in the lead up to season 2012 !!

NEW scarf signature (hopefully with correct spelling) will be here as soon as it arrives !!

Yeah, as disappointing as this news is let's make a positive out of it.

Cripps, as talented as he is, is a lightly built kid who has barely had time to adjust to his recently diagnosed diabetes. In any other year he would be developing through the VFL but circumstances have seem him playing with the big boys.

And as exciting as he has been, his contributions so far have mainly been short cameos involving a few dribbling goals.

Let's take this opportunity to get his injury right, adjust further to his ongoing illness demands and to put some muscle on that slight frame.

Cripps in 2012 to be even more exciting than Cripps in 2011. :)

Permanent nerve injury can occur after 12 - 24 hours of compression.

Yes Goose did have compartment syndrome but mainly as a result of complications associated post broken leg

I just hope he has the support he needs, finding out his has a significant illness, now this...pretty tough year for him.

His already spoken highly of how Ross has helped him cope thus far, he will need more of the same.
