Would this be a good tactic for tomorrow night?

Post: # 1091187Post 3rd generation saint »

I was thinking of Gilbert being played at CHF tomorrow night for one purpose, to man up Scarlett.
Personally, I think it could be a very creative move by RL to tell Sam that his job is to shut down Scarlett, and make him accountable by hopefully kicking a few goals against him.
Take Scarlett out of the game and Geelong lose a lot of their rebound capabilities off their back line.

Except for the sanity nothing much has been lost.

Gilbo loves playing forward, has played all his worst games forward.

Sam Gilbert will probably never play forward again.

Pres-season yes I thought play Gilbo forward.

In theory he has the tools to succeed there.

But when played there fro the start...he looks lost.

He is just not a natural forward.

so I would leave him back..to midfield.

Yes sure let him run forward on occasion.

But as a "permanent" forward he just looks lost....and for one of his talent, that is areal waste.

Besides against the Cats he can really cut them up across HB.

In GF one, apart from kicking a goal he should have nailed anyway he did SFA. In fact, he allowed Maxwell to take a mark over him and play on to pump it forward which resulted in a goal. When the f--k did Maqxwell ever do that before? He also gave away a stupid and unecessary free in the dying stages of that game.

So...that's a 'no' then. Anyway, how did you see all that from the kebab stand? Took your beer goggles to the game?

Sam Gilbert is so out of touch that I really do not understand how he can have any impact on this game.

Obviously one of RL's favourites. His form has been nothing more than mediocre all season. Probably the most one-sided player in the competition, yet even his preferred left side is suspect. IMO needs a run in the magoos.

You really need to get over your hang up of living in Adelaide and not being able to get to games.

Fisher onto Chapman, shadow him in the midfield and if he goes forward?

(Gilbert, thought he'd been better the couple of weeks previous to the Dogs game)

Gilbert is possibly the most un-natural forward in our side. He looks lost up there. He looks nearly as lost off half back this year, he needs a sudden improvement in form.

He's been improving each week imo.

His personal life has been tough I assume, nothing like that to take your focus and enthusiasm away from your job.

And anyway who is better in the 2's?

That said I agree he shouldn't play up forward.

He should play where he made a name for himself, and get his confidence and form back.

The reason I think putting Gilbert on Scarlett is that it will give him a specific task, and sometimes when you hand someone a simple task, eg manning up Scarlett, can be the thing to help get them out of form slump.
If you remember, Sam's first decent good game was when RL had him tag Judd.

I had a brilliant thought. how about we move the ball quickly into our forward line , hitting leading targets on the chest , I know this is pretty radical , but it might just work!

Well, that depends on the midfield.

Bakes on Scarlett.

Too busy whacking each other to pay attention to the ball.

Besides Sam Fisher, which other of our defenders started off as forwards?
Dawson?

What positions did Raph, Gilbo, Zac, Blakey, Jim, Demps, play junior footy in?

I am sure that some of them have played a lot of footy as a forward. Just a matter of playing the right one forward, and giving them some training there.
