Current winning streak
We are on a streak of 6 at the moment. In our history, there have been just 12 occasions when that has been bettered:
Seven games: 1929, 64/65, 67, 68, 71, 2005, 2010.
Eight games: 1939, 1966
Nine games: 1997
Ten games: 2004
Nineteen games: 2009

Only 3 clubs have won 6 in a row this season. Collingwood, Geelong and St.Kilda.
Hypothetically speaking of course if we had won the games at the start of the season when the team wasn't really mentally switched on against Carlton(3 point loss), Geelong (1 point loss) and Richmond (draw) all of which we led with about a minute to go, we'd be sitting pretty in the top 4 right now.
People say the Saints are back... whatever.... they never really left. The boys just needed some time to get a bit of fire back in the guts.

If it pans out the way we want, ie finish 6th, those losses may have worked in our favour. I reckon 6th is better than 5th (as longg as we dn't have to play WC over there in the second week) and the extra 1.5 to 2.5 wins would not have been enough for us to secure 4th anyway.dragit wrote:adelaide in hind-sight looks even worse now too…gringo wrote:We were stuffed by the draw as well. We seemed to play the top end of the ladder twice and hardly an easy game in the first half of the season. Richmond was a disappointment as it was one of the few easy ones.

Im wrapt to see some confidence back in the team but I also temper our current "streak" with who we have beaten and where.
West Coast in Melb is probably the only real win of note if we are truly talking top 4 side material.
Im not saying beating top teams is beyond us - but I reckon weve won games against lower opposition playing 2.5 - 3 qtrs (usually have second one off) we cant do that against the best and need 4 qtrs of good footy......question is are we ready for that? can we sustain that level under the pressure the Pies etc will put on..........and how will that hold up at the G????
I still feel 2011 could be the "gap" year before a reload in 2012.
