My attempt at a 2012 fixture (originally on BF)
Yeah, I'm bored, have nothing else to do so i created this fixture.
It's extremely time consuming and difficult to create these things.
The funny thing is I actually started this before the Ross Lyon thing happened so it was a complete coincidence Fremantle and St Kilda played in round one.
Anyway, let me know what you guys think.
OUr fixture is ridiculously good, four interstate and seven at the MCG - I think its more likely to be the other way around when the fixture comes out:

All I care about the draw is that it is FAIR.
But as we know it won't be.
It is premised on making money.
This IS and REMAINS the biggest BLIGHT on our competition and gives us NO CREDIBILITY internationally.

The rest of Australia can wander mask-free, socialise, eat out, no curfews, no zoning, no police rings of steel, no illogical inconsistent rules.

I tried to make it fair I really did but some things were out of my control.
Collingwood has something like three interstate while Richmond has about seven - apart from that everyone else has four to six.
But everyone has between 10 and 16 free to air games (well Vic teams anyway)
And everyone has between 4-7 six day breaks (we have five I think)
And I think most teams have between 2-4 Friday night games (some might have five, again, we have two I think)

You need a lot of time and patience to do this. I've tried many times before but it's just too difficult. I did it compeltely by hand - no software whatsoever, unless you count excel but that's just easier and tidier than using pieces of paper.borderbarry wrote:You have done a good job One Eyed Saint, you have more patience than I have.

The AFL I believe use a linear programming algorithm.
They feed all their contsraints in (e.g. the blockbusters, derbies and other "distortions").
Then they set up other key parameters which they then try to optimise or minimise (e.g. six day breaks, back to back interstate trips etc.).
And then out pops their heavily compromised draw!

I like to look at the FIXture from both the football & commercial aspects. From a commercial point the first five weeks are an absolute disaster;
Rd 1: AWAY-Interstate
Rd 2: AWAY-Interstate
Rd 3: HOME-Sunday Twilight v Low drawing club
Rd 4: AWAY-Sunday Twilight
Rd 5: HOME v Interstate club
My ideal for the first 5 weeks would be Rds 1,3 & 5 being HOME games, with at least 2 of these being against some of the bigger Victorian based clubs, a maximum of one Sunday Twilight game in this time and only one Interstate trip too !!

NEW scarf signature (hopefully with correct spelling) will be here as soon as it arrives !!

I think I did better.

But kudos for trying. It's a huge effort, and after doing it for a number of years, it keeps getting tougher and I always make a mistake or two.

But kudos for trying. It's a huge effort, and after doing it for a number of years, it keeps getting tougher and I always make a mistake or two.

Next four weeks are:Eastern wrote:I like to look at the FIXture from both the football & commercial aspects. From a commercial point the first five weeks are an absolute disaster;
Essendon away at MCG
Collingwood HOME at MCG = Big $$$$
Carlton away at MCG
Geelong HOME at MCG
Three of these four on FTA.
It really is difficult to focus on one particular team and make sure they have a perfect draw.
Unfortunately a lot of things are dictated by what the networks would like as opposed to what the fans would like.
The networks want to see lots of Collingwood on TV and very little St Kilda.
I had you in mind when I posted this big time Eastern because I know you're the FIXture man around here!
The way I had to do it though was with some teams' requests highger priority than others.
We made two GF's, play a stinky gameplan (well we did this year) and dropped to seventh this year. As opposed to a team like say WCE who finished bottom last year, play a more attractive brand of footy and improved to a Prelim final this year.
Also, I did create this fixture before the whole Ross LYon thing happened - if I had my time again, I would probably make something like Round one friday night at etihad against Freo and the return trip round seventeen with melbourne st kilda the next round.

Re: My attempt at a 2012 fixture (originally on BF)
WHAT, we play two interstate trips in a row to start the season, what a crap draw!OneEyedSainter77 wrote:Yeah, I'm bored, have nothing else to do so i created this fixture.
It's extremely time consuming and difficult to create these things.
The funny thing is I actually started this before the Ross Lyon thing happened so it was a complete coincidence Fremantle and St Kilda played in round one.
Anyway, let me know what you guys think.

P.S. - PLEASE DO NOT quote the entire post to say one thing, for example quote the entire post and say "WHAT, we play two interstate trips in a row to start the season, what a crap draw!"
Simpley saying it is a crap draw without quoting the entire post will suffice.
"Another storied win in Robert Harvey's career. They say he is the embodiment of their motto of strength through loyalty, and on the day he became just the tenth man to play 350 league games the saints reward him with a seemingly impossible victory."

Really?saintkellerm wrote:Kudos for taking the time to make the draw, as a saints fan who loves going to the games, cant go Sunday games, so not a huge fan of Sunday games. But I am only one supporter. Well done, prefer interstate games at the beginning of the year well.
That's strange. I prefer to get them over and done with.
IN my draw, we have two in the first two rounds then don't travel again until round 16.

OHHHH I thought it was strange because who would want more interstate at the end of the year?....saintkellerm wrote:I think that is what I said although I forgot the "as" in my post - prefer interstate games at the beginning as well!
Actually, I'll plug punter's on bigfooty too. See the post in the middle of the thread - that's a much fairer fixture in terms of first five rounds...
