Saints closer to signing players
WITH a week to make the call to sign players, cut them or let them walk, St Kilda looks closer to securing some of its unsigned players.
Sean Dempster, third in last year's best and fairest and the highest priority among the out-of-contract Saints, is understood to have agreed in principle to a new contract. Dempster and the club are finalising the precise terms - two years or three - with an announcement expected next week.
Full-back Zac Dawson has yet to sign the new offer of a contract on reduced terms and could yet choose to delist himself from the Saints by the second list lodgment on Friday.

Peake has re-signed.
Dempster looking likely
Ray looking likely
Polo has no bargaining power.
After being delisted once, he can't risk going into another draft.
Raph Clarke has collected as much pay for being injured as he has for playing.
He wont want to risk the draft unless he has a firm offer from another club and that is not likely.
Blake also won't want to risk the draft, his choice is re-sign or retire.
Dawson probably won't take the pay cut, if he has a firm offer from Freo, expect him to skulk off to the West.
For all the players, it comes down to
1 have a firm offer from a rival club and go into the pre-season draft, or
2 re-sign for less money, or
3 retire

The more you know, the more you know you don't know.
When I was a young child, I knew that I knew so much about so much.
Now that I am old and know so much more, I know that I know so much about so little, and so little about so much.

You are going lose your job to somebody who uses AI.
Your company is not going to go out of business because of AI.
Your company is going to go out of business because another company used AI.

Do you actually have to sign a contract? Can't you just go month to month like when your lease expires on your rent? You probably can't becuase the system doesn't allow it but just putting it out there.ace wrote:Peake has re-signed.

This article states only Ray & Dawson out of contract, which is closer to the mark then The Age one.
http://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/sport/ ... for-peake/
Midfielder Brett Peake will continue his career with St Kilda after committing to a new contract.
The former Docker, whose 117-game AFL career included 75 at Fremantle, has signed a fresh deal to stay under coach Scott Watters.
It comes on the back of the 28-year-old's most consistent season, despite the Saints' slump from grand finalists to seventh this year.
His signing leaves WA's Farren Ray and defender Zac Dawson as the Saints yet to confirm their futures for 2012.

The AFL has to be able to calculate that each Club's salary cap can be met.
They can and do prevent clubs from taking part in the pre-season draft unless a club can demonstrate that it has enough room in the salary cap.

We are planning having 38 senior & 8 rookies on our list next year. Which is different to 40 & 6 this year. Means 6 national draft and rest rookies. But potentially 1 preseason pick aswell.bobmurray wrote:Doubt whether our cap will allow us to take part in the pre-season draft..saintsRrising wrote:You answered your own question.SaintPav wrote:

Not only is it disrespectful, and inaccurate, but the notion of having 22 absolute guns in a side is fanciful stuff.
My opinion and how is it disrespectful? Sorry but Raph will not be in the next St Kila Premiership side. It is not just Raph as well. Of course you cant have 22 guns. Raph may play a good game every now. I am not a Raph Basher, i dont sit their in the stands and go off at him.SainterK wrote:Silly comment.clarky449 wrote:I dont because we cant win a premiership while he is in the team IMOskeptic wrote:geeez I hope Raph signs

I just don't get the concept that one guy can somehow prevent St Kilda from winning one.
Probably a thousand moments in 2009 and 2010 that defined each of those games, not one player, one toe poke, one miss kick.
We cant afford to have Raph have his mini mind slips and run around with no idea, or have him drop a simple chest mark. Raph does it more then everyone in the team. We wont win anything unless we inject speed, skill into the team, which is why for us to progress furthur next year the likes of Polo, Clarke cannot be an integral part of our 22 next year.SainterK wrote:Of course he could be in a premiership side?clarky449 wrote:My opinion and how is it disrespectful? You would have looked like a right knob if we got a bit of luck over the past few years. He may have already been a one, or even two time premiership player already.clarky449 wrote:My opinion and how is it disrespectful? Sorry but Raph will not be in the next St Kila Premiership side. Wonder what you would be saying about him then. Anyone can rattle off premiership players from any year who are just averege players who got lucky. Look at some of the filth players from last year who are "premiership players" Their captain is just one. There are hundreds of them.
The Dermott Breraton attitude that you are no good unless you are a premiership player is a crock.
Sick of Raph bashers. Your comments prove you are just another one of them. The laughable thing is you don't even know it.

he also does a lot of really good things that half the side isn't capable of doing hence why he gets gamesclarky449 wrote:We cant afford to have Raph have his mini mind slips and run around with no idea, or have him drop a simple chest mark. Part of reason we are going with max amount of rookies. They are on min wages so dont cost much and help out our salary cap "issues"bobmurray wrote:We can plan all we want BUT they have to ALL fit within the CAPstkildathunda wrote:We are planning having 38 senior & 8 rookies on our list next year. Ummm yeah we are a different team from 2009 and 2010 and Raph strived under the way we were playing. So because i have an opinion, i am a Raph Basher, it seems only good things can be said about our players. If Raph stays with us then Good Luck to him and i will continue to support him like i have done while he has been with us. Doesnt mean i cant have a view. Absolute Toss.
