Post: # 1178016Post kosifantutti23 »

ST KILDA lost its full-back Zac Dawson to the west only to find a potential replacement across the Nullarbor when it recruited former West Coast key position player Beau Wilkes last night.

The 25-year-old ......

I like the sound of this Wilkes. I reckon we should let him loose in the forward line. He sounds like he could kick bags of goals.

But he won't though. Any forward line with Roo, Kosi, Milne, Schneider et al will never get decent supply ever.

I just checked Wikipedia and he is 25 not 22.

Was delisted by WCE at the end of 2010.

Sounds great on the interview.

Values the opportunity and confident he will put everything into it.
Knows where he is at and will be a great team player.
Awesome replacement for Dawson who will not need as much protection.
Good choice.

Do we really have to look that far? Anyone would think he was a gun defender

all i know that the eagles had a number of defenders, including Glass, and he was behind all of them.

Kicked plenty of goals at the business end of this season for Claremont in a premiership year. Looks like Simon McPhee would have had a lot to do with this selection.

EDIT: Pelchen said this morning on SEN McPhee didn't really have that much to do with the selection (thanks to Ross who? for the run down on that one).

Scott Watters is slowly bringing the rest of Western Australia over with him.

I still remember him from the Eagles. He was probably unlucky with his timing at WCE, they were rebuilding and he was cut. He looked about the equal of Zac Dawson, not outstanding but solid. Good like for like drafting, he would slot straight in to play Zac's role.

He doesnt have to be a superstar, just solid and reliable, after all we're not trying to replace Stephen Silvani at FB, Zac was only an average footballer who tried hard.

1 year contract. worth the punt. if anything he'll help protect the younger bodies in the VFL and show the younger talls how to go about it.

can always play down back as well as up forward. good insurance policy and worth a punt. better than drafting fev.

Looks like a bargain to me.

Ready made with a big strong body who is a great size. Can play forward too but will most likley line up at full back in round 1.

From what I have read he played some good footy for West Coast but was at the back of the line in terms of defenders and was unlucky with injuries at the wrong time.

Best of luck to him

He cant be any worse than Zac. He will be a good replacement IMO - skills and age wise

Seems like a good pick-up at No. 68. Ready-made to fill a known gap at fullback. Mature at 25, good size and clearly a handy player. As others have said, Glass and Lynch kept him out of W/Coast.

Can also play forward, which is a bonus.

Well I guess they had Waters and Glass who were locks when fit. Assuming he had a decent injury free year this year, where does it leave head? Does Wilkes get first crack now?

I think that really sums up what I thought about Dawson. He did try, no doubt about it.

I like the "enormous body strength" comment - sounds good.
