We should re-locate to WA. Or change our name to the St Kilda Sandgropers.

I'm fine with that. He's not actually a West Aussie though, he's a Brighton lad

Is there any reason?

(There are stacks of other people I'm hoping we'll be looking at.)

Actually originally from Sandy VFL. Freo are pretty keen to pick him up as well and I'm guessing they have a pick before us in the rookie draft. Although I could imagine him being our last to second last pick.

I found the delisting of Hughes by the Dees to be a bit strange in the same list as Marigliani from the Dons.

Both looked more than okay in the positions they played and there were plenty of other poorer players on the field.

I wouldn't say no too.

I reckon the HS are just taking a punt because he is training with us. Working on that he is as much chance as about 9 others and lets face it we will probably take 2-3 of our rookies from those not training with us.

Wow, the stepladder may be a ruckman too? Looks tall. Great grab

Averaged 1.5 goals over the year and 0 in the grand final. Big game player?

If we were to take even two rejects as rookies, it would be wrong. Rookies are supposed to be just that, rookiesa, not rejected players in their 20's. They are for the Pre Season Draft.
I have no objections to us taking an older player if it is to address our absolute shortcoming in ruckmen, but that should be all. Leave the other positions for kids.

Well said borderbarry..

I agree with the thinking that we need a big bodied medium sized half forward flanker that's ready to play and make an immediate impact (while Siposs, Milera and co build their bodies up) ..
but there are probably a couple of strong, big bodied 18-19 year old half forward flankers still available out there - that will develop further.

I'd be recruiting them ahead of a player that's been overlooked (by the Demons) and has had injury issues (hip ).

What I have heard about Hughes is that he is impressing with his work rate and that he is seen as being a handy 3rd forward. He is especially good overhead for his size. In his last game for the dees I believe he took 12 or 13 marks and a lot at the club were suprised he was let go, but they had a few of the same types in Sylvia, Bate, Petterd and Dunn.

Last year was his first injury free in his career really and I believe the thoughts are that with a full pre season he may be a handy and cheap pick up.

What happens when the ball hits the ground .. is he quick over the ground ?
How does he compare to this strong bodied 18 year old ?
Is Danny Hughes a fierce tackler ?

Not sure about his tackling pressure and quickness. I am predominently going on the word on a few people here and in Perth and the word from training is that his workrate and strength/ marking ability is what is putting him slightly ahead of the other mature-agers. It is all second hand, so take it with a grain of salt.

We should def rookie Marley Williams with one of our picks if hes still avail. Still doesnt address our kpp needs though.

From his WA stats he played 23 games (so had a durable year), 33 goals 26 points so not really a sharp shooter, and only 15 tackles so not an inside 50 tackle machine.

On existing form seems an unlikely rookie pick.... but you never know...

Why should we definitely rookie him?
What's so good about him given that nobody (including us) chose to draft him last week?

I understand if he's a young gangly beanpole that needs years of development that he might be worth taking a punt on , but if he's 'just another mid' surely he'd be way behind the 50 odd mids who were drafted last week?

Marley Williams is the kid who kicked a 55 m goal off one step, is'nt he? Is fast and doesnt need to be built up, is ready to go now as far as size is concerned. I would be having a good look at him.
