5 positives - 5 negatives

Post: # 1209679Post SainterK »

Positives

Stoppage work improving weekly
Saints fans were vocal tonight, really felt like a cauldron
Kosi flying high, great to see him getting his confidence back (5 contested marks tonight)
Lenny still our BOG
James and Adam are ready soon

Negatives

The turnovers continue
Over-officiated IMO
I penciled that one in for a win
Lenny still our BOG
James and Adam aren't ready yet

Great thread idea K

Positives:

Contested ball
Run and ball movement
Geary
Dempster
Thought McEvoy played a great first half

Negatives:

Thought Fisher was really quiet
Dal Santo tagged by Crowley
Didn't like Milera's double bounce
Saints members area full right across the wing
Accuracy

The members area is a positive. Not sure how it appeared in the -ve section, brain snap.

to me it was a bit more of a case of the free kicks they didn't pay that was telling

the no 50m penalty to Goddard grinded my gears

A startling statistic

Perhaps the umps were trying to balance things up by giving them so many soft free kicks.

C'mon! There some shocking decisions that went against us and a handful of obvious ones they missed.

Why not trying having a crack at the umps for once? It's a good form of catharsis :)

Positives:

Kozi
Geary
center clearances
gamestyle
saints fans / crowd

Negatives:

Accuracy by foot
Finishing / taking chances
Bad decisions by senior players
Youngsters weren't good enough - still a way to go
Ross Lyon

As good as he was, I actually thought Lenny was uncharacteristically "fumbly" last night, as were a few of the other boys

Positives
Geary - the new Bakes
Lenny - enough said.
Hands on footy - 60% in fwd half is impressive
Forward line - thought it competed well in air. tackles early in fwd 50 strong.
Youngsters - can keep bringing them through now - Ledger, Sipposs, Winmar, Ross

Negatives
Foot Skills - its a long way to look up from half back to half fwd with only "hard" pinpoint options in the middle. Sigh.
The "key" clearance-get the first, swamped on the receive. Poor teams can't stop the 2nd give, good teams can and do.
Pace - when it broke open a bit, Hill was dominant. Chasing butt # no fun
Offside rule - needs to be envoked because we tend to get forward of contest and when it gets out the back, its all over.
No selection changes leading into two 6 day breaks game

Positives
Geary
Contested ball

Negatives
Kicking for goal was pretty poor
Delivery into the forward 50 was terrrrrible.
Defensive structure was a bit out of whack

Positives:

Our rucks effort to compete and strengths as forward targets
Geary
Gilbo's goals
Roos work rate
We won in most kpi's last night

Negatives:

Umpires killed us with free kicks that turned the tide at crucial moments.
Players didn't go out there last night and get excited and enjoy their footy (Lyon's cliches and philosophies kept repeating in their heads and there were bad memories all week floating around in their minds)
The forwards need to be as hungry for the footy as Milney and Roo and provide more options.
Players running through the wings and centre need to ignore Roo if he has a backman right next to him (he's not the player he was 3-4 years ago)
Watters needs to be pro-active, not re-active (I was disappointed that there weren't more team changes when the line-ups were announced- this needs to be a year of opportunity - freshness and change rejuvinates and we need the whole playing list competing for spots).

The good:
Clearance work excellent
Contested footy excellent
Young players will improve a lot
Kosi close to dominating a game
Steven everywhere

The bad:
Umps still think Thommo is coaching us
