Montagna clear to play

Post: # 1213315Post stkildathunda »

PATRICK KEANE
Leigh Montagna Tribunal Charge withdrawn this afternoon by AFL legal counsel Jeff Gleeson. Montagna now clear to play v Hawthorn in rd six. Gleeson was made aware St Kilda would call J Magner as part of Montagna defence, with evidence contact was caused by an accidental knee. Mr Gleeson notified Tribunal Chairman David Jones he would not continue with striking case, withdrawing charge under AFL Player Rule 23.10.2

Once he was charged with striking, this was the only way it could go.

Saves legal fees.

What a wank.

Why can't the MRP speak to a player before laying charges if there is some doubt?

They charged him with striking, but Magner & Montagne were going to testify that it was accidental knee that caused it... Not sure what vision MRP were watching to think it was a strike!!

Twas the players intent to both say contact part of going to ground, both spoken to seperatly and then charge dropped

Silly bloody citing.

It was quite clearly all caused by Magner's sling.

T Walker on the other hand...

"The inches we need are everywhere around us. They're in every break in the game. Every minute, every second. On this team we fight for that inch. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Great news. He hasn't been playing his best footy so far this year, but he's still better than anyone who might have taken his place and hopefully he will rise to the challenge over the next few weeks and get back to his best.

Well I hope you dont complain when a commentator says it is clearly a free against one of our players when you think it isnt. I dont see a problem. there are 3 avenues with the tribunal, the MVP which does it on video eveidence, the tribunal where you present the case and the appeals. Joey got off because it was the wrong charge. The system worked. If they had to speak to players before the charges they wouldnt make the charges until about Friday and lets face how often would the players tell the truth anyway.

Typical , from the bunch clowns running the game.
inconculsive evidences sees joey out for two whilst selwood who clearly hits raines gets nothing !
only the fact that magner says it was an accidental knee sees the charge dropped , If magner wasn't sure what hit him , you can guarantee joey's suspension would stand.

Sorry, just slapping myself in the face to make sure I'm awake and this isn't a dream where one of our players actually gets off a striking charge.
Now just checking if hell has frozen over.

Any compentent body would not have come up with a striking charge on the available evidence. I looked at the vision on the AFL site and could not see anywhere where Joey swung his arm in a striking motion. Either he has fists that travel so fast he is bordering on being recruited by S.H.I.E.L.D. into the Avengers or he didn't hit Magner!

This is one of those cases where the video clearly didn't provide enough evidence to support a charge...so you get on the blower and talk to the club and the player.

That is the exception rather than the rule and should always be used to ensure that your system works.

The MRP are quickly showing that they have no idea on what is actually a reportable offence. They see blood and they think "report". It's a tough game and people get hurt with accidental and incidental contact. I am pretty sure that in all four cases that have been challenged and returned not guilty, there was not even a free kick paid to the aggrieved player.

James Magner is a class act. Interesting to see how many of the Saints talked to him on the ground after the game. Obviously a great bloke and seems to be well respected.

I admit I GOT IT WRONG, BUT

for the mrp to give a player 3 weeks and then for it to be thrown out BEFORE any hearing tells me that the MRP system is in urgent need of a massive overhaul !!

NEW scarf signature (hopefully with correct spelling) will be here as soon as it arrives !!

could be right Mark- maybe saved face by doing it before the media camped on the doorstep tonight,.
Mark Robinson‏@Robbo_heraldsun

it may save time not having a hearing, but it appears the tribunal hearing was held today anyway. Is this normal occurence?
Mark Robinson‏@Robbo_heraldsun

Slap for the MRP..... th4y said it was a punch, when it was an accidentally knee. As Maxwell Smart would say, missed by that much

exactly exactly exactly - when you think what is at stake, reputation, salary, club performance. it's a disgrace
