Has Kosi played his last game?
If we are completely out of finals contention at the end of this round will the coach bring him in for the Carlton game, assuming he won't be going around next year.
Always a tricky one to get the politics right in these circumstances. Kosi should be treated right because he has given the club heaps over the past 10 years that goes beyond his efforts on game day and is much loved by most of the legends of the club from the past 10 years.
Interesting.

He has a contract so it is up to him. Pretty hard to give away over 300K i would imagine.

He probably wouldn't but if the club has a clause that allows them to let him go do you think they would at present?plugger66 wrote:Cairnsman wrote:plugger66 wrote:He has a contract so it is up to him. Pretty hard to give away over 300K i would imagine.

Also not sure that he is on over 300k?

If there was a clause I think they would for sure. Havent heard of many clauses like that though.

Ok then I pose this scenario, would you terminate his contract and pay him out if you were convinced that all he could produce was equal to that of last weeks game?plugger66 wrote:Cairnsman wrote:He probably wouldn't but if the club has a clause that allows them to let him go do you think they would at present?plugger66 wrote:

Re: Has Kosi played his last game?
AFL listed Kosi listed as a free agent. If he activated another year on performance, you'd have to wonder how.

Re: Has Kosi played his last game?
Hope not. Had a pretty good season with 26 goals. Would be very handy for a heap of clubs. Obviously playing sore last week and at 29 playing his role that a given.

No because there is no point. Doesnt help on the salary cap so may as well keep him.
Re: Has Kosi played his last game?
No club would pick him up. Seems to always be sore when he plays disgustingly. Fact is, he is just ineffective now. I wouldnt think he is playing his role either.CURLY wrote:Hope not. Have you seen some of the second talls playing for clubs at the moment? Kosi is in the top half dozen on performance this year.clarky449 wrote:No club would pick him up. Re: Has Kosi played his last game?
The argument that he's less bad than others is hardly encouraging. If he is, then it's solely on the strength of his first five games. He kicked fourteen goals in his first five and has kicked thirteen in the fourteen games since. He provides little other than marks and goals. Right now I like Wilkes, Gilbert and Stanley better.CURLY wrote:Kosi is in the top half dozen [second talls] on performance this year.

Re: Has Kosi played his last game?
How could he be sore? He's done nothing for five years. He was dropped, the same as Gram was, but for some reason Kosi's a protected species. He should do the honourable thing and announce his retirement if he really loves the club.CURLY wrote:Hope not. Had a pretty good season with 26 goals. Would be very handy for a heap of clubs. Re: Has Kosi played his last game?
Ive always liked Kosi - personable, genuine an time for fans.
I hope IF he bows out we do it with dignity - if we are sure he's got no future with us lets tell him and also tell him that staying will mean he gets his cash (fair enough) but he will no longer be starting 22 and most weeks at Sandy barring senior injuroes. If he says yep lets do it......then he stays.
If he doesnt like that at the least we walk away and say to him - we were upfront with you.

Yeah your right throwing your body into packs with no regard for his own safety is nothing. I have no doubt that Milne and co love having Kosi in the side so thats enough for me to keep him going.Bernard Shakey wrote:How could he be sore? He's done nothing for five years. How many packs did he throw himself into last week? He only made one contest all night, must have been a bloody big one.CURLY wrote:Yeah your right throwing your body into packs with no regard for his own safety is nothing. Kosi could get run over by a train and it would somehow be the trains fault....

Re: Has Kosi played his last game?
Veterans list is his only hope, if he qualifies.
But I really reckon he'll retire, and we'll see him and Blake play against Carlton.
And so they should be given a farewell games!!!

Re: Has Kosi played his last game?
For 300k, surely the club is better off keeping him on the list to be used as required. It's not as if he has to be a walk-up start to the 22.
What can we gain from the 300k we'd save by cutting him? More than we'd get from keeping him around as a back-up forward/ruck? I don't think so.

Re: Has Kosi played his last game?
Kosi kicked 3 in Rnd 4 against the Dockers, had a couple of brainfades along with a few others in the team and managed to get suspeneded, then came back rested up bagging 5 in Rnd 6 against the Hawks. The team was going OK with Kosi playing close to goal...He was on course to kick 30-40 goals, but Macca got injured and then Stanley went down. He had to ruck for the team because we had no-one else.vacuous space wrote:..................He kicked fourteen goals in his first five (games).....................CURLY wrote:Kosi is in the top half dozen [second talls] on performance this year.
Hasn't got the physical or mental toughness to play more than 10 good games a season, but you can't ignore his start to the year. If he plays next year he should either be kept on ice until June or he should only play in clutch games. Not saying he's going to do a Clarke Keating and turn into a September specialist, but I reckon he will give us value when he's played fresh.
Re: Has Kosi played his last game?
not entirely true, i don't think. we could pay him out under this year's cap if we had 300k spare (maybe because poor performance means fewer bonuses?), or under next year's cap otherwise.plugger66 wrote:No because there is no point. but even if it didn't help with salary cap, it would give us another spot on the list which could be handy. if we want to promote three rookies and have a minimum of four draft picks we need to free seven spaces - crocker, peake, clarke, polo, winmar is only five...
that said, i think he'll stay on. we just don't have any talls, so even if he plays at sandy for most of the year he's required as backup. same with wilkes and blake - all else being equal they'd be close to the edge, but given the structure of the list we need to hang onto two out of three minimum.
