Trent Dennis - Lane

Post: # 1277790Post kosifantutti »

Apparently we are interested in him for a late pick as a replacement for Cripps.

He would be our first hyphen since John Peter-Budge
The Saints, meanwhile, have moved to secure a replacement for Cripps in negotiating a trade of a late pick for Sydney small forward Trent Dennis-Lane.
The Saints are seeking to load up with a fast forward line blending in quick recruits Tom Lee and Dennis-Lane to complement the pace of Rhys Stanley and Terry Milera.

We are 'fast' becoming a speedy side...presuming we do complete this trade.

I wouldn't say no to TDL. He could be a goer. I'd also like to look at Gary Rohan while we're perusing the Sydney books...

Certainly fits the Sandy profile. Not sure about age and injury profile though.

Not over the moon with this. Considering Mitch Morton kept him out of the side

We are loving those Sandgropers. TDL was coached by Watters at Subiaco as a 17 year old. He certainly knows how to kick a goal. He bagged 70 in his first year of WAFL in 2009 before he was drafted. Watters clearly knows him and rates him.

I hope we get him then. The Saints could also do with more pace.

Also fits the 'played under Watters as a Junior' profile.

Cripps was drafted as a HBF, so this guy doesn't really replace him, plus we already have 4 exciting small forwards on the list, surely that is enough.

We already have a similar player - as in slightly built, quick, 180cm plus player - in Milera ?
Aren't we just doubling up ?

Is there something in this? As in replacing Milera? Milera and 26 for Jacobs and 30?

....no chance

I remember a final a couple of years ago when he tore Carlton up in the last quarter. Including the game winning goal from the boundary line. Dont see why not for a late pick. He can play, just Jetta took his spot in Sydney.

I like the idea of this. Gives us more options and competition for spaces will be huge.

Can TDL play in the midfield? maybe on a wing?

Not so sure on this one. Seems like the type of player we already have in abundance.

Don't know too much about him, so who is he the same as on our list?

He was looking as good as Jetta a couple of years ago but he seems to have disappeared. Cripps was a guys who played his best footy as a quick goal kicking wingman. TDL is a quick goal kicking wingman. He might just need opportunity and was looking like he should be something special even. It's funny how one guy like Jetta gets a grade and another like TDL just falls away yet on talent alone not much in it. If Scott could reinvigorate him might be a steal for the Cripps pick and can play from day one I guess.

Though to be fair, are we in a position to be critical of that method yet?

If he thinks he can squeeze more out of the guy based on prior knowledge, I haven't seen enough of a 'fail' pattern in this strategy to knock it yet.

Do we really want to wait 4 years to see if recruiting old mates is a 'fail pattern'?

We want a completely professional, methodical & un-emotional approach…

Well no.

However you're assuming that it isn't a completely professional, methodical and un-emotioanl approach.

At least he has knowledge of some of these guys. Nothing like picking up hype only to find it wasn't that great. I'm practical, if I have seen it enough to rate it I would prefer it to someone else's relayed story. TDL seems to have been a gun at WAFL level. Nothing wrong with assuming the talent is still there but needs to be given opportunity. It fits with our age profile which is obviously a priority and he's not dissimilar to a Sydney style recruit who hasn't ben given a chance to show his talent.

…that's great, but we don't need another small forward… We nearly need everything but small forwards.

If we are going to draft a small forward it should be an 18 YO, we have 2 late 20's-30, and two mid 20's.

Why aren't any other clubs looking at him do you think?
