Markworth Re-signed for 1 more year.

Post: # 1317142Post saintbrat »

His initial contract was due to expire at the end of this season, but the Saints have made the extension as he makes his recovery.

Markworth is yet to play a senior game after he was drafted from the Calder Cannons with pick 35 at the 2011 draft.

“I’ve signed on for another year after this one. It gives me a bit of security and I can concentrate on my rehab and getting back next year,” Markworth told saints.com.au

“They’ve been really supportive. Ever since it happened they’ve said the security is always going to be there so once it’s down on paper it is very reassuring. It’s good now to concentrate on the rehab and hopefully play some good footy in 2014.”

Markworth has been using his recovery time to focus on his biomedicine studies at the University of Melbourne and has also been gleaning advice from teammates Lenny Hayes, Sean Dempster and James Gwilt who have all been through knee reconstructions.

He sounds like an articulate, smart kid.

He's got some athletic gifts, hope the knee doesn't effect him.

Agreed.

There is no harm in giving him a deal purely due to promising reports last year that he was a potential player of the future.

I hope it all goes well and we see him debuting soon.

good news. for obvious reasons Mark gets left out of conversation when talking about immerging talent. where I think Mark could be a real quality player, and even potentially a star and captain material.

Well how many players yet to debut have contract extensions?

Good to hear. He's unlike most aspiring footballers in that he has a brain and alternative career options, so I was a little worried the ACL would discourage him and he might lose interest.

A good decision by the Club - good for Daniel and shows that the Club is supportive of its players under duress.

I would say most talented young players that do an ACL at the beginning of their 2nd year would get an extra year.

Who is Mark millarsaint?

He looks like he's added a bit of muscle to the frame even since Colorado.

I've never seen a bad St.Kilda player - that's just how they are.

Agreed. Looks like he's spent his rehab time wisely! Looking in great nick. The upside of the year off is that he can add enough muscle to his frame in the next twelve months that he won't run it all off once he starts palying again. If his talent matches hos work ethic he'll be a star..... :D

Is he is a smoky to play later in the year ala krakouer. Maybe the reason curren hasn't been upgraded.

Not sure about his chances of playing this year, but Curren could easily be upgraded & downgraded again in time if they wanted to play him.

I think they are waiting to see how Ferguson pulls up in a few weeks as we are struggling for defenders so badly.
