no brown in 2014

"Brown has played only 53 games for the Eagles since being drafted in the first round (number 16 overall) in the 2006 draft.
But as Glass, 33 next month, reaches the end of his career, Brown finds himself with a chance of cementing himself a spot in the defence of a side that regularly plays finals football.
''I don't want to sound clichéd, but I am focussing on my football at the moment, week by week, and playing regular football for the Eagles.
''But yes, I can see myself playing for West Coast in the future.
''We have to weigh it up at the end of the year. I do love this club and I can see myself wearing the Eagles jumper (beyond this season).''

Re: no brown in 2014
Think your title is a little off,
I would think that he is still more likely to leave than stay unless he is in the best 22 at the end of the season…
He would fancy his chances of playing every game in a side like ours…
Doesn't seem that great anyway though does he?
Victorian-based clubs may have to up the ante if they want to lure West Coast defender Mitch Brown away from the Eagles.
The key defender today did not rule out staying with the Eagles past the 2013 season.

Re: no brown in 2014
he will be an eagles player next year but i tend to think he will spend more time in an East Freo jumper (this year) and a East Perth Jumper (next year) even if Glass does retire he needs to do more that just turn up to claim that spot and i can see WCE having other options pretty soon

Why kind of idiot would "rule out" staying with their current club to the press? Nothing article.
Re: no brown in 2014
yeah, it does seem that the club are trying to give him more game time.... to keep him around...
personally dont think it would be the biggest loss if we didn't get him...
yes it is an area that we need help in, but not sure he is our answer.... see what happens i guess

Re: no brown in 2014
With Rhys we are sitting on a future AA defender.
I wouldn't be losing any sleep over Mitch Brown.
Id be focussing on some quality midfielders

My thoughts also. Have never seen him play anymore than good ordinary footy as the late J.Dyer would say.
Couldnt understand what all the fuss was about last off season, and still cant.
Re: no brown in 2014
Quoted for truth. I wasn't hopeful before the season started but Melbourne's uncanny ability to implode yet again makes me think there's a sneaky chance.Saints94 wrote:Two words. James Frawley.

Question is how many big backs do you need?
With Stanley playing back IMO we are still one short.
If Stanley reverts to the forward line we are 2 short.
Will Ferg be good enough next year?

Have Melbourne got any mids worth looking at?lloyd21 wrote:another two words Jack Watts
The AFL might have to intervene and introduce a special 'no raiding of players" to save the dees.
But I remember there were strong rumours pre season that James Frawley wanted out (and we wanted him) and was unhappy there. It certainly appears those rumours were correct. Its not a happy place for players.

I doubt it. Sydney will try and recruit him.saintsRrising wrote:saintspremiers wrote:Is he likely to be better than Stanley??

Re: no brown in 2014
IMO the last time Melbourne have done ANYTHING significant was knock us out of the finals back in 06 and years of failed development has simply really f****d them up, so the real question is why do you wanna be here?Con Gorozidis wrote:Have Melbourne got any mids worth looking at?lloyd21 wrote:another two words Jack Watts

Re: no brown in 2014
Not sure he's the type defender we need tbh - Frawley would be nice alongside Stanley though...

How can we get him? And why does he want to come to us. Is it because someone on here or BF started a rumour last year. A rumour based on nothing. Love to get Frawley but no hope. No interest in getting Brown but we may still get him. Hope not.

Re: no brown in 2014
If Frawley becomes available he will end up at Collingwood, Sydney or one of the other big clubs.
The only poor clubs that stand a chance of getting a top line player like Frawley are GWS or GC because the AFL will suppport them to get him.
We don't have the drawing power to get a top liner and will have to shop in the bargain basement as usual.
Get used to it, free agency has made the rich stronger and the poor weaker.
Brown is a possibility because he is just a good ordinary player and even he we would need to pay huge overs to get.
Forget free agency as we don't have the clout to compete with the big boys.
If a player is given a choice of 300K per year at St Kilda or 300K per year at Collingwood, he will choose Collingwood everytime.
We would have to offer 400K for him to consider us and probably 500K to make it too good to overlook.
Plus we can't offer him a spot on the footy show if he signs.

Re: no brown in 2014
I didn't read the article as being no chance
and given that several Eagles have re- signed over the last few days I'd say he's told the club- "wait and see". or both have agreeed to that.
