Re: Curren
It looks like we know why they elevated Ferg now. Fisher was obviously a week to week proposition. Curren and Shents should get a run soon I hope. Shents would be good to know once and for all if he can adapt to senior footy. He's not a kid so will need to play this year or risk being sent home.

As must we, given the club isn't likely to come clean on it.BigMart wrote:He and Ledger must wonder why other kids not really ready, have leap frogged them
Both of them look worth at least a few games in the ones. If it doesn't happen it'll be really interesting to see if other clubs when they're likely delisted at the end of the season.

I suggest others show more to the coaches. I know you think the club make only mistakes but im guessing they know more about players than you and they can see the ones who have it and ones that dont. They will make mistakes but get many more right than wrong. Dal wasnt the best young player when they gave him a go in the seniors all those years ago but looked the most promising. Same with Siposs 3 years ago. At the moment that doesnt look so good because maybe the guy is lazy. I reckon Ledger isnt getting a hame because of his poor decision making even in a much slower league. That doesnt improve in a faster competition. Curren is very small and again isnt greatly skilled and is a bit slow for a guy of his size. Little mids usually need pace like Jack has.

Re: Curren
Pelchen's obsession with clean disposal might be their down fall if it's not for team balance or other internal reasons. Richmond and Hawthorn and Essendon to a degree can rely on clean disposal to break away from the opposition- we have to laboriously contest just to keep winning the ball then work harder to run and break free of our man. Poor disposal is going to be less appealing while this game plan is in fashion.

Re: Curren
Does anyone know how the salary cap is effected when a rookie is upgraded?
I have heard that it is a waste of money to upgrade unless the player is going to actually play..
Are rookie wages increased significantly if they are upgraded?
Are rookie wages counted in the celery hat?

Re: Curren
Not sure exactly how it works but there's simply no reason to upgrade a player unless you want him to play in the next St Kilda game. I mean, why would you upgrade someone and then play him at Sandy?dragit wrote:Does anyone know how the salary cap is effected when a rookie is upgraded?

Re: Curren
From sandy match report:
"Tom Curren was a clear stand-out for the Zebras with 34 disposals and his explosiveness was evident all game."
Apparently also had 11 clearances, 3 marks, 2 tackles.
Just keeps racking em up!
No word on Ledger so can only assume he had a quiet game.
Maybe there are 'other' things Current isn't doing as asked by the coaching staff, but geez he can find the footy and from reports doesn't butcher it..

Very Interesting. Late change or standard procedure for 1 of the emergencies NOT to play? !!savatage wrote:Ledger didn't play.

Re: Curren
Sipposs andSaad were the other 2 emergencies for the saints game and they both played for sandy.Eastern wrote:Very Interesting. Late change or standard procedure for 1 of the emergencies NOT to play? !!savatage wrote:Ledger didn't play.
Can only assume its a precaution to keep one emergency from playing at sandy to keep them fresh in case of a genuine change on Sunday.
Or, a saints player is injured and Ledger will come in.
It would be pointless for Watters to omit a player on Sunday and prevent them from playing for sandy today.
Re: Curren
they always keep one emergency...two when playing interstate....
.everybody still loves lenny....and we always will

Curren has to be given a chance before the end of the season. With his numbers I would be disapointed if he was delisted at yesrs end but not given a shot at the seniors

Re: Curren
another report saying Curren was a star...
Ahmed Saad bagged five goals for the Zebras and was instrumental in helping his fight back from a 25-point deficit at the last change.
Tom Curren was another star with 33 disposals, while Josh Saunders (23) and Adam Cockie (19) were solid contributors.
St Kilda champion Lenny Hayes accumulated 5 possessions in the first half before being rested in the second.

Re: Curren
He definitely deserves a chance in the Seniors.
He has pace, he is good in close (11 clearances yesterday), he kicks goals, he applies pressure & his kicking is ok.
As well as this, he won the B&F for the Zebs last year.
It would be disappointing if he didn't get a crack before the end of the year.

ledger hasnt had a sniff becasue he butchers it to the opposition after doing all the hard work in the middleBigMart wrote:His form has dipped

disposal is the prob
needs to slow down, breath and take his time
not slap it on the slipper banging it 30 meters forward with an ineffective disposal

Re: Curren
Whatevers buddy. I have been here for 30 years. Way too long for spoilt brat attitude. Our time at the top was the exception not the norm. I just think some people here don't realise this..maybe the saints hierarchy don't realise either? We have one of the lowest membership numbers in the league yet we all prance around like this now is the blip! The blip was the last decade and we couldn't seal the deal. The norm is the rot that will settle on over the next 2 - 3 decades. We are s***
