Port power

Post: # 1353900Post Con Gorozidis »

If anyone has watched the last two Port games they'd be mighty impressed.

Talk about a blue print from basket case to success in a year or two.

Kochie as pres . Gun fitness guy. Ken Hinckley . Youth focus.
Their kids are skilful have hard bodies and play like they mean business .
Bloody great to watch .
Saints take note.

See the problem is that in terms of kids they only have probably 3-5 that are in their 1st or 2nd year. The majority makeup of the team have been playing for 3-5 years. Thats what can happen once the players get to that magical 70-100 games mark.

Great point , if we top up with a couple of gun kids and maybe pick up a good free agent it can turn around pretty quickly if we have inprovement from the guys who have been on our list for 2/3 years ...

Exactly buckets.... People keep saying "look what can happen in a year - port"

The reality is that their rebuild has been happening for 5 years, more proof that it takes time. Port wouldn't be expecting to seriously challenge for another year or two yet.

Patience arsehoppers.

Spot on buckets. I would add though that our rebuild is into its second year starting with the 2011 draft boys

Yep. For sure. Spot on. Its a 3-4 year process if you do everything right.

It can be a 10 year process if you do everything wrong (Hi Melbourne :-)) or a 20 year one if you do everything wrong repeatedly (Hi Richmond).

Would they be playing like this if Primus was still coach?

Also people need to realise they had about 5 top 10 picks in that time. We havent had any so we are still away off. yes we may get a gun or two out of the last 2 years but you are much more likely with top 10 picks.

A list of St Kilda players with more than 10 games under their belt and who are under 25 years old
8 Dennis-Lane, Trent 25 games 24yr
5 McEvoy, Ben 82 23yr

17 Roberton, Dylan 50 22yr
2 Siposs, Arryn 23 20yr
16 Newnes, Jack 18 20yr
6 Ross, Sebastian 11 20yr
Can you spot the difference? We have to aim such that in 2017 our <25yo list looks like Port's does now.
It'll have Sippos, Newnes, Ross, Webster, Murdoch, Wright, Saunders near the top with 50-100 games and then another hopefully 10-15 or so players yet to be drafted underneath with maybe a couple of Markworth, Curren, Ferguson, Minchington, White and Pierce having stepped up enough to have grabbed a few games too.

Hird... The unflushable one is now... just a turd...

Yep - fair calls Richter + p66.
Saints need to be firm and clear and say Right - we need two down years (2013 and 14) and we need to make every post a winner and look toward 2015 and 2016 coming up the ladder.
Lets make it happen and start looking ahead. 2009 is over. That group of players - as great as they were had their chance, climbed the mountain but couldnt quite put the flag in the ground. Its over.
