Lee, Saunders, Wright
Thats what you call smart trading then recruiting. Could someone please send a email to the FLOGS on Foxfooty and make them aware that Lee wasnt traded for pick 12 alone.

Re: Lee, Saunders, Wright
After the last 4 weeks or so I'm VERY happy with the Lee trade...even if we just went for him alone. He has showed a hell of a lot of improvement!
He had barely a pre season last year also, so a solid pre season and that bit of confidence from the last part of this year and i can see him being a 40+ goal kicker next year.

"ST KILDA: Nathan Wright
Officially their first pick is Wright at no. 24, but you need to roll in Tom Hickey, Spencer White, Tom Lee, Brodie Murdoch and Josh Saunders too, all taken through a combination of picks and trades used by a club that made the tough decision to let Brendon Goddard go to Essendon.
Lee has just come into his own as a second forward with a classic kicking style, Hickey has struggled to find his niche, and White is an exciting young colt of a tall forward who might be Buddy Lite. The rest have all had their moments, Murduch, Wright and Saunders included. They have plenty of young kids who will play 150-200 games.
Now with this year's No.3 pick they need another midfield champion."

Re: Lee, Saunders, Wright
Yep
Pelchen did well last year I reckon - but I dont want him outsmarting himself this year. Just play it straight and get the best midfield young gun with 3.
If he wants to get funky do it with pick 19.

Playing the odds.
Right now the chances of at least one of Lee, Sauders, and Wright being a gun would have to be way more than the chances of Jacksch being one. ( Mind you I hope Jacksch becomes newsworthy , simply so I can hear Caroline Wilson trying to get her mouth around it ).
Lonergan ( pick 13 ) seems to have debuted comparably to our Tom Curran. But Tom Hickey is already able to ruck reasonably at AFL level, and given the small amount of Aussie Rules he's played in his life, its not unreasonable to expect that he'll continue to improve the other aspects of his game. But then we get Spencer White as well.
Usually towards the end of the first season, there are some draftee's that you are wondering about. ( Crocker, Lever, Winmar etc ). But this draft is almost scary given that we have 4 who have successfully debuted at AFL and two others who are having an impact at VFL level.

Agreed.plugger66 wrote:Totally agree with the last line. lets just get it done.
To me we have just done the heavy lifting with the downgrading and splitting of draft picks to get talent.
We have found the next gen of flankers who will probably push into the midfield.
Now we need quality mids and talls.
Easy isnt it?

Re: Lee, Saunders, Wright
I heard him say earlier in the year that we wouldn't be trading our first pick this year as it is the first uncompromised draft for a couple of years.

Re: Lee, Saunders, Wright
If our pick 3 isn't a gun then Pelchen is a dud.
That's the easy bit. Pick 20 or whatever our second round pick is is the real key

Re: Lee, Saunders, Wright
Hawthorn got plenty of top 10 picks wrong while Pelchen was there, so anything is possible. Sounds like a good draft though so the first handful of picks should all be good players.saintspremiers wrote:If our pick 3 isn't a gun then Pelchen is a dud.

Re: Lee, Saunders, Wright
After 2010 people were extremely pleased with a draft that netted
Cripps... Gone and did little
Ledger.... About to go
Siposs.... On the nose here
Saad and Milera were a recruiting master stroke after 2012??
One season and you'd like to see a glimpse, but three seasons is probably required to measure a draft.....
Wright, Saunders, Murdoch, Pierce showed positive signs

Dont think any had shown as positive signs as this current crop.

They weren't exactly given much of an opportunity to play.
Re: Lee, Saunders, Wright
Cripps was our super-sub in 2011. He'd come on and kick a couple of goals. Didn't seem to do so much when he played a complete game. He's played some half decent games at West Coast and will probably be around for a while.
Ledger - seductively good at getting the ball. but.......
Siposs, I think the worst thing for him was that people thought he could replace Goddard. He probably could ( if we are talking about the 2004 finals series Goddard ).
We may well see less from Wright , Saunders , Murdoch , next year. Second year blues. Then we have to keep them for a third year to see if they come out of it.
But Maybe Scott has methods to beat the blues, he is managing the guys fairly carefully.

If know one knew about second year blues, or spoke about it, or gave it an official name, it wouldn't exist.Kickit wrote:Cripps was our super-sub in 2011. He'd come on and kick a couple of goals. I don't buy into that at all.

They were given ever opportunity to play. Myth. They were injured a hell of a lot that year. cripps is now showing a fair bit just not with us.

Farren Ray: Next big thing at the club - I'm going to say Tom Lee.

They have all been given a taste but have been carefully managed.
Who from last season of the newbies has kicked on
Newnes? I'd say yes. Got his jaw broken by a thug GWS neanderthal, came back two weeks later with his jaw bolted and steel plated and still put his head over the ball. Kicking and general play has improved and he is becomeing better every game
Saad - fallen away badly this year after a bright start. Is probably gawn after being dumb with banned substances.
Milera - like Saad, Fallen away, doesn't work hard enough for an AFl footballer
Sipposs - think had a game or two in 2011, but looked a player last season. Injuries may be an excuse but has really performed ordinarily in 2013.
Stanley - had some OK games in 2012 but played out of position in 2013 and had his confidence shot. Looke to be gettign some kind of touch up forward then got an injury.
So i would say one out of 5 from last season has kicked on. Some merit in your 2nd year blues theory, but a good point in the way the newbs have been managed this season.
Lance or James??
